Parish Advisory Board

The parish trustees and the members of the parish advisory board assist the pastor, by offering advice on projects, such as upkeep of the church, the rectory and the parish cemetery and in planning events throughout the year.

Parishioners enjoy coffee socials regularly after the Divine Liturgy on Sundays, as well as lunches several times a year. The church sponsors an annual bazaar and food festival, as well as tag sales.

The parish has hosted The Yale Russian Chorus several times. Most recently, the church has welcomed LYRA, a premier ensemble from Saint Petersburg specializing in sacred music.

Parish Choir

Holy Trinity Choir
The parish choir sings chants and hymns during the Divine Liturgy every Sunday and during many other services throughout the year. The choir sings in the a cappella style typical of the Byzantine Catholic Church. Much of the singing consists of four-part arrangements of chants traditional in the region of the Carpathian Mountains of East-Central Europe. The choir also sings settings by a variety of famous composers, including Tchiakovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and Bortniansky, as well as contemporary American and even some original arrangements.

The choir has become well known and has been invited to sing at many functions outside the parish, including recent World AIDS Day remembrances in Hartford, interfaith Thanksgiving services sponsored by the New Britain Area Council of Churches (NEWBRACC) and a concert at The McAuley in West Hartford. Choir members visit parish shut-ins and nursing home residents to sing carols during the Christmas season and other hymns during the year.

Because many of the pieces are challenging and because of the fact that singing without the accompaniment of an organ or any other musical instrument presents special challenges, the choir practices regularly. The dedicated members of the choir are gratified that they are able to contribute to the beauty and uplifting nature of the liturgy of the parish.

Parish Baking Group and Cooking Crew

The parish is grateful for the many years of devoted service and hard work on the part of the members of the baking group, who have raised countless thousands of dollars for all sorts of special projects to beautify the church. The baking group makes available for purchase monthly by parishioners and friends of the parish an array of ethnic baked goods.

Members of the group also prepare other traditional foods as part of a variety of parish events, including the annual bazaar, the summer picnic and parish brunches for the feast of Saint Nicholas in December and in advance of the Great Fast.

Gardening Club

A group of dedicated parishioners takes care of the grounds of the church and the rectory. From spring to autumn, members of the group weed the grounds, plant flowers and prune bushes.

Other Groups

Blessing food on Pascha
Many other parishioners contribute to the life of the parish in special ways. The shut-ins support the church through their prayers. Lectors read the epistle and Old Testament passages during the Divine Liturgy and other services. Altar servers assist the priest in the sanctuary.

The parish trustees prepare a weekly report of parishioners' contributions. Some parishioners prepare new musical arrangements for the choir to sing. Other members clean and decorate the church.
