I'll bet somebody, somewhere, accused Pope John Paul II of wearing not a Chotki but a latka given to him by some Poles. He did add some weight over the years of his papacy, didn't he?

He did have a healthy appetite, but he worked it off through exercise.

He loved and enjoyed life - only someone like that could have written so brilliantly on the Theology of the Body.

I miss Pope Benedict, too. frown

I am glad none of the recent popes reigned during the Battle of Lepanto. We would all be speaking Turkish!

As you know, the Orthodox actuallly preferred to be under the Muslims rather than the monolithic, traditional Roman Catholic Church of those days . . .

One has heard that the Melkite Archbishop Elias Zoghby (Eternal Memory) and other Melkite hierarchs are of that opinion. It's interesting that this is tolerated and demonstrates the Holy Father's wisdom.

Bless Father!

As the soon-to-be Saint John XXIII once said:

"I am only infallible when I speak Ex Cathedra. And I will never speak Ex Cathedra!"
