Dear Khrystyna,

Tears are always a great spiritual experience to be cherished!

Columcille is a nice fellow, isn't he? wink

The Benedictine Fathers are great and it is their charism of St Benedict that has always made them so spiritual - I've always found great inner peace in reading the Rule of St Benedict.

And I really like their black robes.

I wish I had black robes like that . . . wink

Dear Khrystyna:

May I add my deep admiration for your decision to stay put with the good Benedictine fathers.

(Your story might well up the eyes of our own Benedictine [Bro. Elias]).

I am old enough to have experienced the traditional Tridentine Mass and the Novus Ordo, in Latin, and I, personally, appreciate both.

Each is beautiful and majestic in its own right!

You, and Columcille, really made my day.

Alex, if you'd be willing to moonlight as a Presbyterian minister once in a while those black robes COULD become a reality ..... biggrin

Amado,

Bless you!

Dear Khrystyna,

If you'll keep this a secret between us, I'll tell you that yesterday when I went to lead my seminar on Byzantine spirituality, I wore a large three Bar Cross . . .

After a very energetic, upbeat entertainment session by me smile , I asked if there were any questions.

The first question?

"Could you explain that cross you are wearing . . .?"

The teachers' eyes were riveted as I explained.

I knew I should have brought that Ethiopian prayer shawl too! wink

And I understand that there actually is an "Orthodox Presbyterian Church!"

Dear Alex,

Right you are, there is, indeed, a smaller Presbyterian body called "The Orthodox Presbyterian Church"!!

An Ethiopian prayer shawl -- I'm delighted!!

Tell us more about the seminar -- is this something you do regularly and how is it organized? What a wonderful opportunity to share the Byzantine tradition!

Theophilos, don't be too hard on Soloviyev. He was responsible for his own sort of Russian variant of the "Oxford Movement" which caused to a great extent the creation of the Russian Catholic Church. He was received as a Russian Catholic by Father Nicholas Tolstoy.

Blessed Leonid Federov as well as other Russian Catholic priests who came from the Synodal Church into communion with Rome and others such as Mother Catherine Abrikosov were greatly influenced by Solovyiev.

This movement was interesting because it was an entirely peaceful, introspective and reflective academic and philospohical movement rather than a politically-motivated movement. "Orthodox" to Soloviyev was not contradictory to communion with Rome (sound familiar around this forum wink ?)

Which makes Crocker's comments even more irritating considering his obvious bias, lack of knowledge and perspective relating to Soloviyev. I think to the contrary of Crocker's assessment, i.e. that Cardinal Newman would actually be supportive and find things in common with Soloviyev.

Clearly and very well expressed, as I might have expected.
My thoughts as well!

Some very interesting ideas have been discussed, and some worthy questions have been asked. All of this however is far from the unfortunate article, that was cited at the beginning of this thread. Perhaps the article and the title of this thread are best left behind?

May I suggest that any number of the questions from this thread would make better titles for a discussion?

Thank you.
