Thus posted Father Anthony:

> the life of Saint and his life prior to ordination.

Father Anthony, bless!
Methinks this is irrelevant because Saint Augustine's hedonistic ventures were prior to his Baptism, when all is forgiven, and the Canons only concern themselves with certain sins committed after Baptism.

As for oekonomia and charity, I certainly agree in general, but in the specific instance under discussion, we are speaking of both a practice forbidden in the New Testament (bigamist clergy) and a practice proscribed certainly well before Nicea, and likely in apostolic times (a priest marrying after ordination), and it is my humble opinion that that crosses the line into the slippery slope to "anything goes". If the priest is unable to make a living other than as a priest, then the Church should either provide for a nanny or give him employment as a layman after he abandons the priesthood to remarry.

A joyous Pascha!
Kissing your right hand,
Photius

Jason,

If it is an annulment that you are considering, then it would be wise to talk to your pastor and see what process would be involved in your diocese. If the Church allows you to get an annulment, and then marries you again, I hardly think it would consider your/its marriage a form of adultery. A marriage in the Church is either a marriage or it is not.

Please remember to consider asking if your prospective marriage partner, if a divorced Protestant or Catholic, needs to go through an annulment process too.

I wouldn't wait until you find a partner either. It may take up to two years to finalise and then there are other requirements like PreCana or meeting with the pastor over time.

Good luck,
Joe

Apostolic Canon XVII:

He who has been twice married after baptism, or who has had a concubine, cannot become a bishop, presbyter, or deacon, or any other of the sacerdotal list.

A Forum member who lurks but has never posted was kind enough to recommend the following to me in a pm. I thought I'd pass it along:
