Dear Friends, This has been a great thread for me. I like reading about what Easterners have to say about the Latin Church. Of course I like to hear the positive comments, but the critiques are valuable too. One comment on modern Latin architechture. I do agree that Latin churches built from the 70's onward are usually too plain. It is time to renew the renewal. In the fervor to throw out "excess" baggage, too much authentic tradition and beauty was removed from Latin churches. When the Lord allows me to win the lottery, I'm going to buy magnificent stained glass windows for my parish church. Until then, I'll keep contributing to the parish hall building fund.

Paromer, Chances are that the Bishop will not allow you to install the stain glass windows. They want the plain look because they believe; you know the new theology, "we are the body the Christ." http://www.renewintl.org/healing/index.html The USCCB says we need to "heal the body of Christ." I don't think we can heal God? What does God need to be healed from?

Dear Johan,
Hey! Our Archbishop Michael Sheehan is on the video.
It was a major scandal of clergy sexual misconduct in 1993 as Archbishop Michael spoke of on the video. Our former Archbishop resigned because of his sexual misconduct (not pedophilia) on his part.
God is good. Our parish is growing in numbers. Despite the terrible things that happened, people are still hungry for God. People still seek the Eucharist and Holy Mass. Many young people are in Faith Formation classes. Confession is still practiced. Of course both before and after the Church scandal too few people receive confession. Do many use confession at your parish?
Lord have mercy,
Paul

Paul, I dont know about the other Churches but here they come in droves, I am exhausted, All 9 Masses are packed during the weekend and the daily mass more often than not numbers 200. Where is all this lack of faith and harm that supposedly has arisen from the scandals. Or where is the finacial problems that supposedly would occur. Our diocese had a captial drive for 50 million dollars. WE DIDNT GET 50 MILLION we got 80. They faith is very much alive and will continue to grow. Stephanos I
PS Now if we could just raise the money for our restoration project and for assisting the poor. But I guess that is a matter of faith and trusting.

Stephanos,
Praised be God.
I am so glad to hear of the good things happening in your parish & diocese.
Yes, in our Archdiocese, the annual appeal reponse has increased as yours has. So has the number of young and older men in seminaries.
Our Archbishop Michael Sheehan is a good man. He sent every family in the Archdiocese a small crucifix from Lourdes. I treasure ours and remember him in prayer whenever I see it.
Christ's peace in this time of war,
Paul

I attend the Byzantine parish I belong to 75% of the time, and the Roman parish my husband prefers the other 25%. Originally posted by Lawrence: Just curious as to how often (if ever) Eastern Rite Catholics attend Mass in the Latin Rite. The reason I ask, is because I'am wondering if anyone has some mild form of aversion to statues, religious paintings etc. I would certainly hope that this isn't the case, because one of the reasons I occasionally have attended Divine Liturgy Services, was not because I was considering joining an Eastern Rite Church, but rather because the Eastern Rite is an integral part of Christ's Church,i,e, same Church different form of worship.
I've never really suspected any antipathy on behalf of anyone in the Eastern Rite, it's just that I'am wondering if any occasionally attend Mass in the Latin Rite.
