An asp is a poisonous snake. A lapse is a late, dyslexic, poisonous snake.

Those who wish to eat red-dyed pistachios in their own homes are free to do so. I suggest washing your hands afterwards with scouring powder.
Don't forget the poor dyslexic agnostic who tossed and turned for endless sleepless nights agonizing over the question " Is There A Dog?"

An asp is not just an "ordinary" poisonous snake; it is any of the small venomous cobras or horned vipers native to Africa and Asia Minor! The untimely demise of Marc Anthony's Cleopatra was attributed to a bite of one such small cobra. Going back to aping, was it not said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? Amado

Then both Catholic and Orthodox should imitate us.

My question was serious... What does "to ape" mean? I've never used this as a verb or heard it used as such.
Dan, Also... In what way should the Western Catholics imitate you? I wasn't clear on that.

To ape is to imitate.
I think I disagree with this whole discussion. The question Are we to ape the Orthodox anymore than we ape the Latins? is, in my opinion, not valid. We should be who we are. We should be who we are called to be. As Byzantine Catholics we are Orthodox Christians in communion with Rome. We are not a Third Way, one that is neither Roman Catholic nor Orthodox. In those areas where we have not been good witnesses of Orthodoxy we should strive to restore our Church so that it can be such a witness. We are not and never will be the fabled bridge between East and West. But we can become who we already are simply by praying and living our Byzantine heritage.
I highly recommend reading what Pope John Paul the Great has written about the Eastern Churches.

The Administrator's choice of reading is excellent and admirable. However, I still like macadamias, pistachios, and chocolate-covered marzipan bars. Chacun a son gout!
Let us hope that the Administrator's cat will never have occasion to learn the awful truth!

Launch out into the deep and let down the nets for a catch. If nothing else happens, you might catch a dogfish!

Administrator,
Thank you so much for your reply. I guess I really didn't have any idea what the verb meant in this context.

Not to break the sequence of the thread (but, I'm notorious for doing that anyway - so  ) - John (the Golden-Tongued one ), Welcome to the Forum. Delighted to see you here, my friend (you keep hours as bad as my own). Many years, Neil
