Catholic Online lists the Feast of St Seraphim of Sarov! (Unfortunately, he's not listed on the Ruthenian Calendar...although the Ukrainian Catholic Menaion online does mention him.) At any rate, go to:

http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=2494

to see his listing on Catholic Online. He can also be seen today (January 2nd) as one of the Saint of the Day listings:

Dear Dave,

Yes, St Seraphim is one of the greatest latter-day saints!

And let's all remember that he expected his spiritual children to say the Rosary/Rule of the Mother of God daily!

And I hope you do, Brian!

Dear Brian,

Well, you are wrong about that, Big Guy.

I would never nag you . . . wink

And I've helped many, many people become Orthodox who have approached me in this regard, you know.

Dear Marshall,

Thank you!

And I'll soon be able to send you that Akathist to St Charles the King and Martyr . . .

Dear Friends,

The tradition of St Seraphim of Sarov is also kept alive by means of the recent Orthodox glorification of two of his followers: St Seraphim Zvezdinsky and St Seraphim Vyritsky.

The former, an Archbishop, said the Rule to the Mother of God daily and wore as his episcopal encolpion the icon of St Seraphim of Sarov, "Joy of all Joys" which can be viewed in Angela's avatar.

The latter saint actually repeated the Podvig or spiritual struggle of St Seraphim of Sarov by praying on a rock in a forest for 1,000 nights.

I'm glad the west is honoring St. Seraphim. Maybe the Orthodox can return the favor and honor a western saint. Hmmmmmm. Saint Thomas Aquinas's feast day is coming up..... biggrin biggrin biggrin
