Dear Andrew,

Fr. Romanides was writing in pointed objection to the sipulations of Balamand. His view is that, given what has been agreed to, there is little or no basis for denial of intercommunion/concelebration - and thus, the stipulations are wrong. AFAIK, however, the signatories to Balamand have not reputed it.

Schism is bad, but perhaps necessary. It cannot be healed only through good intentions. We have to have the correct theology, ecclesiology, and soteriology in order to rejoin at the chalice in good faith.
But it cannot be healed without good intentions. And a little humility about the unique correctness of one's opinions - seeking to understand rather than opine, as Proverbs reminds us - is a good place to start.

Dear djs,

Thanks for the link to Romanides!

So, as I thought, Romanides also finds Balamand to be a bit ridiculous. If Balamand is correct, then should have all concelebrated and communed together at that moment. It is the only logical conclusion.

FYI: I've never let (my lack of) humility get in the way of being correct on matters of faith when expressed in an itellectual context, such as this one. wink

But in private, I'm actually a somewhat nice guy.

With love in Christ,
Andrew

And this we agree on, too!

...of which I have no doubt. I am familiar with the type!
