"Every time you wear these Palliums, bear in mind, dear brothers, that as shepherds we are called to look after the purity of the Gospel and the unity of the Church of Christ, founded on the 'rock' of faith of Peter", said the Pope to the Archbishops gathered to receive the Pallium. Referring to Peter's recognition of Christ as the "Messiah, the Son of the Living God", the Pontiff recalled that this confession "constitutes the solid base of the Church's faith". "On top of Peter's faith and fidelity the Church of Christ is edified", he said. ------- The rest of the article can be read at: http://www.eclesiales.org/english/archive/0006-4.htm

Alex More than traditionalist Latins would dare think.

Dear and Revered Cantor Joseph, Yes, I believe you are more than correct. His Holiness isn't a particular fan of the Filioque and is well read in Eastern theology. When he celebrates the Latin Mass in the Greek language, he omits the Filioque entirely and he gave instructions that the RC Church of Greece completely take it out of their recitation of the Nicene Creed. But I know you've had enough of Filioque discussions . . . A good day to you! Alex

For the sake of the Church, I think we all had enough of it. Joe

One historian wrote:
Archbishop Kenrick, in his speech prepared for, but not delivered in the Vatican Council, but published at Naples in 1870, counts the following five different patristic interpretations of Matthew 16:18: "That St. Peter is the Rock, taught by seventeen Fathers; That the whole Apostolic College is the Rock, represented by Peter as its chief, taught by eight; That St. Peter's faith is the Rock, taught by forty-four; That Christ is the Rock, taught by sixteen; That the rock is the whole body of the faithful." Several who teach a) and b), also teach c) and d), and so the Archbishop sums up thus: "If we are bound to follow the greater number of Fathers in this matter, then we must hold for certain that the word Petra means not Peter professing the Faith, but the faith professed by Peter."

Dear Orthoman,
You "rock," Big Guy!

So do you my Ikie friend, so do you! Now all you have to do is accept what is already in your heart and return to your mother church which you recognize as Constantinople and the 'true faith' of your Ukrainian ancestors.
Blood is thicker than water and your blood lines lead to Constantinople, not Rome.

P.S. Know where I can get some sugarless or carbohydrate free peirogi's?

Dear Orthoman, Well, I once spoke with a ROCOR priest and somehow we got onto the topic of the Unia . . . I told him "God will heal the chasm between us in HIS way, not in ours." When I said that, he hugged me and said, "I'm very happy about you." I say the same thing to you, my Orthodox Brother. Does that make you happy about me too? I've stopped eating perogies altogether - the carbs do increase sugar levels nomatter what, at least they do in my case. I guess I'm already sweet enough . . . Alex

Shameless proselytism!! :p Alex, are you going to stand for that? Bob, when the sacred City on the Golden Horn is re-taken by Christians, and the hierarchs come back out of the wall in Hagia Sophia, bearing the Holy Gifts that they saved from the Turks, they will be surprised to find that Constantinople is no longer Orthodox-in-communion-with-Rome (as it was when they entered the wall, thanks to Constantine XI Palaelogos). To thee the Champion Leader do I offer thanks of victory!! LatinTrad (Long live Constantinople!)

Dear Cantor Joseph, And I know you can "cream" me anytime you wish! Thanks for holding back when I know I deserve to be creamed!! I've been praying for you, Big Guy, and you are constantly in my thoughts! I wrote my Akathist to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel with you in mind as well. Alex

Dear Trad Lat,
We don't allow that kind of talk here.
Please apologise.
