Right. Now I remember. Hard to stay focused in this heat.

Speaking of heat, what do you think about that UGCC Patriarchate? It's full of all kinds of weird people I hear. All chummy and squishy and clannish, and stuff. :p

Dear Amadeus,
Please clarify what you meant here:
"I know, I know!

We, Latins, are intent on "recovering" the Eastern lands for Rome, all the way to Moscow and beyond!

Amado"

i do not see how a Ukrainian-Greek Catholic patriarchate of Kiev would change the status of Ukrainian Catholics in the "diaspora" or what the relationship is exactly right now. is the Ukrainian Catholics outside Ukraine's role to support the motherland or to continue the life of a Byzantine rite church in its present country and setting(not in Ukraine). If you ask an older generation of Ukrainian-American immigrants of the church, i am sure 9 out of ten would say they are Ukrainian Catholics, because they are Ukrainian and from there, but what about the younger generation born in the U.S. or Canada, or Brazil, or Argentina, what is their relationship with Ukraine anymore?

An excellent article highlighting some practical issues of patriarchates in the Catholic Church: Чи м&...#1088;кву? [risu.org.ua] .

I'll keep an eye out for an English translation.

Mateusz, this article answers your question. Basically, if the Ukrainian Greco-Catholic patriarchate exists in accordance with current Canon Law (as the other current patriarchates) then it has no real meaning for the diaspora. OTOH, if it follows an Eatern model (see Orthodoxy) then it will make a real difference.
