Perhaps Marshall is referring to the Syriac "hoods" (called eskimo, I believe), with 12 crosses, worn by bishops in the Syriac tradition, as well as monks (and by extension bishops) in the Coptic tradition. Some will say that the hood and the veil have the same origin. These hoods, however, would not be worn by the Antiochian Greek Orthodox or the Melkite Greek Catholics, who wear the klobuk as was pointed out.

Diak: I think that in the Armenian tradition all priests wear mitres; they even award the mitre to some protodeacons as well. As you noted, their bishops, both Orthodox and Catholic, wear Latin mitres.

Headgear is such a fun topic, ain't it? biggrin
