And what about the silence observed by the congregation during the homily? The only sound, other than the voice of the priest, is the rattling of the pages of the bulletin. biggrin From my perch in the organ loft, I even saw one poor soul reading the hymnal. biggrin

I stand corrected. I was primarily speaking about much I would appreciate being able to swallow the Host before the Past Communion and Dismisal.

Did not the Holy Father put things right in the 26 years of service to Mother Church. Have we been riding the same carousel? grace, wg [/b]

How about the ten minutes of silence after the priest tells a really, really, really lame joke during the Homily? wink [/b]

As a wild guess, wild goose, he did it so that people would see that he was aware of it, and stop flooding his inbox with "report post".

Paul,

Thanks for telling it like it is!

Wild Goose,

I think you need to listen to our administrator and others here who are trying to tell you something.

I am posting below the words to the agreement we all were asked to sign when we came to the forum along with the thought that this is primarily a place where one can learn about Eastern Christianity. Those who come to tear down the beliefs of those here are tolerated to a point, but sometimes enough is enough and that is why the administration is admonishing you.

So here it is and I hope it helps bring clarification. You can read it again by clicking on register.

Welcome to The Byzantine Forum!

The Byzantine Forum welcomes all newcomers to our on-line community. This forum is mainly a community of Byzantine and other Eastern Christians who share a common historical and theological heritage. As such, it is an Eastern Christian forum and not specifically a Catholic forum. Roman Catholic and other Western Christians who have come here to learn about how we express our faith in Christ are warmly invited to participate, but we make clear that the primary purpose of this forum is to exchange information and ideas and not to engage in heavy apologetics. If you have come to overload us with apologetic quotes to test how "Catholic" we really are, please don't bother to register - that is simply not how we live out our lives of faith.

To truly understand who Eastern Christians are you must "come and see" for yourself by joining us in worship. The warmth and fellowship of our faith experienced in person cannot be described in any book. We extend a warm invitation to everyone to visit one of our parishes and join us in prayer.

"And what about the silence observed by the congregation during the homily? "

What silence? The reason why I left a Ruthenian Parish is that people talked continuously dueing the Liturgy. The priest must have spent more than 10 minues preparing the homily, why can't people at least give him that courtesy. God forbid someone speak in the same room someone is watching a sporting event on tV.
A woman behind me was talking to her teen-age daughert, and I "shussed" her. God forbid! She retorted that she was "having a conversation with her daughter!!! During the Epistle! After Communion, a young girl comming back from receiving our Lord saw a friend in the pew I was sititng in and started a conversation with her that lasted at least 5 minutes. Why can't people be quite while in church? Its only 1 hr.

.. I can't hear you any longer, Porter. You've ignored me. At least do me the courtesy of sending a Private Message when that is what is required. This is a public forum, OK, thanks, wg

Gaudior has in the past apologetically said to those speaking " I'm so sorry, it seems like the service is interrupting your conversation." Silence usually happens rather quickly. biggrin

Gaudior, who likewise laments noise in church

I wonder if someone could point out to them that phyically "being there" isn't the same as being ther emotionally and mentally. Maybe they should go to two liturgies. One for visiting, one for worship. Better yet, I have heard of a new invention. It's called the TELEPHONE.

Mike,

Just teasing a bit. I did forget once and forgot to turn off the ringer. I fled the Church with the sound of the "Ride of the Valkyries" ringing in everyone's ears. shocked Never again. Now, I always leave it in the car.
