Ray- that's exactly it: "urban legends". Let us call the Catholic version "liturgical legends". I'm sure somewhere someone- probably now a former priest- attempted to consecrate chocolate chip hosts, or potato chips and coke [the version I had heard] but truth be told, such things are so far from widespread as to be laughable.
Bad enough is the valid but vapid use of phony "folk" music [real folk music is eminently singable and suitable for liturgy], banal homilies, and schlocky art so prominent in contemporary western worship.

Irish Melite huh? to avoid death your Irish ancetors held any mass - in caves. And I believe the Melkite were forced into the mountains.
