It made me wonder today at Liturgy, if Our Lady was taken BODY and Soul into heaven, it must to a physical place, not just a demension. I know Our Savior was risen to heaven, but then He's God. What puzzled me was Mary's bodily assumption and where she is ... or where heaven is?

TN, I misread your post at first and was going to correct you - thought you had suggested Ukraine was in Heaven - but, on re-reading, I see you got it right, Heaven is in Ukraine . I believe, however, that those who insist on calling themselves "Rusyns/Ruthenians" are from that neighborhood of Heaven popularly known as Purgatory; they can only hope that, in time, they will be able to make it to Heaven proper ... ummm, Ukraine proper ... ummm, Kyev (did I spell that right?) ... oh well, all the same place anyway Many years, Neil

Also wishing you Blessing on this feast of the Dormition sister in Holy Orthodoxy Alice. We Orthodox believe the Assumption must have occurred a few days later. When Thomas returned and asked that her tomb be opened so he could pay his respects. And found flowers instead of her body. That's why we Bless flowers on this day.

This must have been a most remorseful moment when the Mother of God fell asleep in the Lord. The Apostles must have felt a great emptiness at this time and with great care took Her holy body and laid it in a tomb. This had to have been a very sorrowful moment. Thomas who was brought from afar wanted proof of this Death and was presented with Her tomb but was instead presented with flowers in Her place. This is Orthodox believe as the way Our Holy St. Mary was assumed into the heavens with the assistance of the heavenly angels.

I have five beautiful white roses atop of my computer desk that are from the tomb this weekend. Such a joy, such beauty!

OrthoMan Dear Bob, Please see my thread under Town Hall. I printed our tradition, as sent to me by my priest. The blessing of flowers sounds like a beautiful tradition. The Greeks, however, do not have it. All blessings of the Panayia, Alice

gtJC! hi all, 1. purgatory, etal. - LOL!! 2. you must 'remember' that our earthly bodies are but the "seeds" of the heavenly bodies that our Eternal Father wills for us at the last resurrection. 3. Eli's chariot gloriously blazing towards the Heavens was a Harley. toodles & God bless, sUSAn I have a couple very pretty carnations from yesterday - they smell wonderful.

If heaven has been finally situated in Ukraine, is it not possible that its boundaries extend to the diaspora, especially to Toronto where HRH Alex the Great reigns? We have had the foretaste of heaven when His Royal Highness expounded on the benefits of being a Ukrainian! Amado (Where are you, Alex?)

Susan I am a bit confused about your post: "You must ' remember' that our earthly bodies are but the "seeds "of the heavenly bodies that our Eternal Father wills for us at the last resurrection." actually they are the bodies that we will have in heaven, our flesh will be resurrected on the last day, true it will be transfigured and glorified but it will still be our "flesh". Stephanos I [/b] But obviously our bodies will not contain the same matter, as the atomic composition of physical objects is ever shifting. The matter that composed our physical body at death will be long gone by our resurrection; the atoms will by then be in rocks and anteaters. Can't we be content with some mystery in such things? It should be noted that to speak of Heaven as a "place" is to use the term analogously; obviously a transfigured body would have traits different from a merely physical body and need not have a merely physical destination. I think that mortals speculating about a world we have not and can not experience is akin to a fetus speculating on the birth world, or shellfish speculating about mountaintops. Probably the gap between our experience in this world and the reality of the world to come is much greater than these examples of the fetus and the shellfish!

Well, we all know the Canadians secretly desire to be Ukrainians and are really "closet" Ukrainians. I think it is kind of like that male body part that, according to Freud, all females secretly envy. Everyone else has "Ukrainian envy." I would want to be Ukrainian too, if I could only spell Kyve - Keeve - Kyiv - Kyrv - is that anything like Kiev?
