Well here is a proposal. The East and the West could hold a synod to set a canon of scripture.
I believe not all Orthodox Churches have a universal canon anyway. (But am not sure about that.)
What a wonderful non threatening way to advance the reconciliation of the two Churches.

That's a pleasant thought Stepanos I. But as much as I'd love to see our hierarchs in Council together, I don't think the Orthodox would go along with it.

To paraphrase one Catholic author (who's name escapes me): "As much as Catholics have a need to define, the Orthodox have a need to leave things undefined."

The Orthodox approach is not to define for the sake of definition. We probably wouldn't even consider defining an Old Testament Canon unless there was a very significant heresy or schism being caused over it. Being we've made it 2000 years without it being a big issue, it probably would be rather hard to make a convincing argument that it is necessary now (despite Logos Teens heart-felt plea). smile

What would one do with the Ethopian Orthodox whopping canon. THe Catholic and Orthodox canon differ minimally but the Ehtopians have all sorts of books that the rest of Christians have truly considered apocrapha. These guys have books about Pontius Pilate in their canon very different to say the least.
