Thank God for this Pope. Hopefully he will knock our heads together enough to get us to turn to God's word. The Eucharist and the Bible, how can the Church not be renewed. What could Jesus have done for us that he did not do? He gave us what we need to live the Great Commission, literaly taking him out into a hurting world - in flesh and word! Dear Friends,
What I like about this papal directive is that His Holiness refers to a traditional METHOD of reading Scripture that is both Catholic and Orthodox.
Evangelical enthusiasm about scripture is a definite turn-off for me. It comes across as being not very serious, done hurriedly etc.
The fact is that slow, meditative reading of the Scriptures IS our tradition and we need to do more of it.
Just like we need to spend more time in prayer and this practice can certainly feed our prayerfulness.
This Pope is bringing his own characteristic stamp to the Papacy for which he will be remembered always.
