Tammy, this whole thing is truly horrible. I am hearing now that more than 40,000 are dead and that a third of them are children. Many prayers.

Last I saw, the death toll was at 59,000. The survivors are in desperate straits too. Parents are finding their children dead, and children are being orphaned. Food is scarce, drinking water is contaminated, and disease may double the death toll over the next few weeks. Our prayers for them all are as much needed as our financial help.

For the souls of the faithfu that were on pilgrimage there http://www.spiritdaily.com/pilgrimskilled.htm

For the parents whose children were ripped from their arms. Let them find their peace in you Jesus. May this tragedy bring conversion to souls Lord for in you alone may the heart truly rest.

Continued prayers for the incredible losses of humanity in all these nations.

I just saw that the official death toll now exceeds 117,000. How can the human heart hold such tragedy? I'm still struggling to bear the death of a single individual... How does the heart endure the death of an entire family? an entire village? a generation of children?

Sweet God of all compassion, wrap your loving arms around your people who have lost more than the human heart can embrace, more than the human mind can comprehend. Console the parents who have lost their children, nurture the children who have lost their parents, heal the communities that have lost a generation.

O Divine Physician, bring swift healing of injuries and protect your people from the disease that is sure to follow in the wake of this incomprehensible disaster. Guide the hands of those who help. Open hearts, doors, and roads for speedy delivery of food, water, medicine, shelter, and supplies.

Through the prayers of the holy fathers and all the saints, through the intercession of the most holy Theotokos, O Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on your people.

Prayers for all who died, may their memories be eternal, for their families, for all who were injured, for those who have lost everything.

The sheer magnitude of the loss of life - now reported as exceeding 117,000 - is almost beyond human comprehension. For a point of reference, the deaths from the tsunami are now almost exactly twice the number of Americans killed in VietNam and whose names are etched into the granite of The Wall. I find that staggering.

Prayers for all those souls, we need to help all we can brothers and sisters. We are so far away, we'll help dry their tears with prayer, we can all do that.

Another agency that is getting involved in helping the victims is the Catholic Near East Welfare Association:

I think it's just beginning to dawn on people just how bad this is - every photo you see is worse than the one before frown

Whatever we can give is only a drop in the ocean .

May God have mercy on all those who have died.

FOR ALL THOSE WHO ARE SORROWING AND IN NEED:

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but, in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen

O Most Holy Mother of God take under your special protection all the peoples of the Tsunami disaster and lift up their cries for help to your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ!

In Jesus & Mary,
+Fr. Gregory

+Father Archimandrite Gregory, who asks for your holy prayers!

Prayers for the victims, the survivors, and the relief personnel.

Is anyone in contact with Edward Yong? When he last posted - at the end of November - he was in London, but I'm wondering if he returned to South-East Asia after that.

Many years,

Neil
