Either have a democratic election and live with it or have a government run by the disaffected and reap the rewards.
What are you talking about?

Are thugs that engineer illegitimate counts representative of democracy or disaffectation?

Do you think Milosevic and Schevrednadze were robbed?

Is not equal access and accurate counting an essential part of a democratic process?

Kinda makes Ukraine's "Transcarpathia" problem look small in comparison to a pro-Russian President.

Friends ,

My intention was for prayers here.

Things are getting more and more involved and what we hear is probably not the whole picture.

We need to pray - could comments about the political situation - dreadful as it is - be moved please.

24-November-2004 -- Catholic World News Brief

PAPAL PRAYERS FOR UKRAINE CRISIS
Vatican, Nov. 24 (CWNews.com) - Pope John Paul II prayed for the resolution of a political crisis in Ukraine during his regular weekly public audience on November 24.

Speaking to about 8,000 people in the Paul VI auditorium, the Holy Father urged the faithful to put Christ at the center of their lives. Offering some reflections on the canticle from St. Paul's letter to the Colossians, he said that the action of Jesus Christ "restores the original harmony" of the divine plan for man and the world.

Acknowledging a group of about 100 pilgrims from Ukraine, the Pope promised that "I will be praying particularly for that well-loved country in these coming days." After a tightly contested election-- which was marred by widespread vote fraud, according to foreign observers-- incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich was declared the winner. But his main rival, Viktor Yushchenko, has proclaimed that he was the true winner, and his supporters have denied the validity of the official results. Observers fear that Ukraine is now poised on the brink of civil war.

In his remarks to the full audience, the Pope observed that Advent would soon begin, and encouraged all of the faithful to prepare for Christmas with "particular vigilance, prayer, and adoration of Christ." He urged all Christians to "an ever greater witness to the Gospel and to Christian values, in the family and in society."

May I echo the thoughts of our friend Anhelyna, and remind all that this thread is in the 'prayer' forum; and so we should confine our posts here to prayers, and requests for prayers.

I know that a good discussion of the political situation is appropriate in other places of our forum, perhaps the 'town hall'?

Prayers for those poor people who have suffered much. Prayers for a peaceful resolution to the political crisis.
