Dear Friends,

When it comes to dental surgery, I'm a "fraidy cat!"

I have to go next week to have an impacted wisdom tooth removed. I've been told there are some complications due to the fact that it is impacted and is growing sideways.

But it was when "bone-work" was mentioned that my heart sank . . .

Please pray for me, especially to St Antipas of Pergamon, the patron of teeth in the East!

(For our Roman Catholic and Anglican friends, St Apollonia is the Western patron of teeth and dentists!)

At last, a prayer request with some teeth in it . . .

Alex

Alex,

I, too, am a "fraidy cat" when it comes to dental work. I have, however, had three wisdom teeth removed via oral surgery and can report, in all sincerity, that all three procedures were "a piece of cake!" The first went so well that by the time the second tooth needed extraction, I found myself MUCH less anxious and apprehensive. That procedure, too, went so well that by the time of the third, I found myself approaching the procedure as though it were nothing more than a minor interruption in my day's normal activities.

I pray that your own "interruption" goes as well as mine did!

Certainly, your anxiety is understandable, but please don't allow it to force you into the wasting of your valuable time and energy engaged in pointless worry, my friend.

Prayers for your health and speedy recovery, Alex!

a pilgrim (who also, by the way, proudly wears the given name of "Alex!")

Dear Pilgrim Alex,

My Namesday is after the pilgrim, St Alexius the Man of God (March 30th OC)!

It's a most beautiful name, is it not? smile

Thanks - God bless!

And God bless you too, Jakub, "Serdechnie Dzienkuyu!"

Dear brother Alex,

As one who has had two bouts of dental surgery in the past 2 months, (and survived both I may add, with lots of help from the Jesus prayer) let me inject (did I say that?) A little humor. On my last visit to the dentist I had x-rays taken and was waiting for the Doctor to read them. I saw someone I knew outside the office so I went to chat for a second with them. The dental assistant whom I have known for years came out and stated loudly for anyone to hear, "How did you get out here? Get back inside, are you trying to escape? It's not THAT bad" There were two people sitting in a car with the window down and I know they heard the assistant, because they turned pale and rolled the window up. Come to think of it, I never did see them on the inside!!!

Serious prayers tho really,
Michael biggrin

Dear Alex:

Your apprehension is understandable. I, too, have been down that road--three times. The worst time was when the dentist decided to take out one on the bottom and one on the top (opposite sides) over my lunch hour and send me back to work.

But it's not that bad, as our brethren have stated. Between the Jesus Prayer and the novocain, I didn't feel a thing and was miles away from the guy in my mouth.

Will pray that you have a painless and successful experience.

Alex,

Get your duckies in a row - find out in advance if you should have antibiotic prophylaxis, and if you do, TAKE THEM. (Not to scaremonger, but an aquaintance died last year because she was one of those folks who needed it, and the ONE time she didn't take the ABX, it led to the infection that killed her.) During this season of Lent, if you have been staying meatless, think about taking an iron supplement for a week or so in advance too - you will heal better if your iron is up to snuff and you are not anemic.

Chat with your doc or oral surgeon too and make sure there aren't any considerations about diabetes to take into account. I don't think there are, but just be sure.

Prayers & cyber hugs,

Sharon

Alex,

I had mine out years ago (impacted, both sides). I was not prepared for the swelling and for several days afterward looked like a chipmunk with a full meal tucked into my cheeks ! Other than that it was not a bad experience.
God grant you a speedy, uneventful recovery.

Barbara

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your kindness and advice!

This experience will definitely be one where "tooth-pulling" won't be necessary to evoke fervent prayer by me . . . wink

(It's great to see the Administrator in fine form here, don't you think? smile )

Kissing your right hand, Father Archimandrite, and also kissing the hands of the ladies who posted here in their charity, I am

yours truly,

Alex

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your kind prayers!

I survived the operation . . . smile

It wasn't so bad, even if uncomfortable and my little dog, Mookie, stayed with me on my bed of recuperation all day yesterday!

May God reward you for your charity in this life - and in the next!
