It is sad news to report that Gerard Serafin Bugge, who has done much to try to reunite the Catholic and Orthodox Churches on a "grass-roots" level, has passed away. He was a pioneer of Internet evangelization, with his site A Catholic Page for Lovers [ praiseofglory.com] (also know as "Praise of Glory") and more recently with his blog A Catholic Blog for Lovers [ blogforlovers.blogspot.com] . I had the privilege of knowing Gerard a bit when I lived in Baltimore and was part of his ecumenical group. He was in love with Jesus and all that is beautiful in God's creation, and he ernestly desired the reunion of Christendom. He will be missed on this earth. May his one overriding desire be granted: that he be united with the Blessed Trinity for all eternity. As Gerard would say: All in Praise of His Glory!

I'm so sorry to hear this.
Gerard and I conversed a bit on the forum.
We actually had an argument over the sainthood of St Peter the Aleut.
He was a pious, sincere Christian (and a priest?).
May God rest his soul with the Saints (including St Peter the Aleut!).

Thank you for this reminder!
May Gerard, who was with us in this Forum for a short "tumultuous" ride, rest in eternal peace!
We continued communicating for a while after this episode and showed no bitterness nor rancor at all! He was just misunderstood for his passion for the unity of the Holy Churches of God, which I think was engendered by his "unique" journey from Catholicism to Orthodoxy and back!
He was gravely ill for most of the last years of his life.
All praises in God's glory!

Eternal memory to a gentle and good soul, who was a tireless worker for the recognition of the Russian Catholic Church as well as larger church unity.
I was pleased to make his acquaintance once while at a visit to St. Michael's in Manhattan, and he helped set up the original St. Michael's website. Yes, he was a former Roman priest.

If I should think of one word to describe Gerard as I know of him, I think it would be sincere.

I was so saddened to hear of Gerard's passing. I often visited his website where one could count on reading material that pointed to eventual reunion of the apostolic churches. May he rest in peace!

Gerard's wonderful website work for Saint Michael's and the excellent materials that he has posted on www.praiseofglory.com [ praiseofglory.com] have provided me with a lot of reference material over the years. His passion for the reunion of East and West was honest and he was a good and gentle soul. O Lord, receive the soul of Your servant Gerard, who cared deeply about the union of Your peoples of West and East and who contributed time and effort and talent to the cause of achieving that and to Your Glory. Lead his soul to rest in a place of light, happiness, and peace, where there is neither pain nor suffering, neither grief nor sighing. And since You are a gracious God and the Lover of Mankind, remember his years of service on Your behalf and for the service of Your Churches, forgive him every sin he has committed by thought, or word, or deed, for there is not a man who lives and does not sin, for You alone are without sin and You are the Resurrection and the Life. May the Lord grant him peace in the company of Our Lady and all the angels and saints. This is so very sad. I wish I could express it better. Bishop Seraphim Sigrist wrote about Gerard on his Live Journal [ livejournal.com] . From an account of a recent visit to Gerard: .....but anyway he and Mike were talking about music, as I was at computer,
and Gerry began to sing a Charles Wesley hymn about the Grace of God and
his mercy in including beings like us and accepting us, with his
congestive heart condition his voice was usually
week but now he was singing strong and glad...and I thought this is something
wonderful, I am in the presence of a holiness in this moment present in this
man (noone possesses it you know...it visits and rests on people).
Here is the last verse of the hymn he sang from memory and said he had
been singing over and over in the morning after Mass...
