Dear Friends,

Next Thursday, I will become a "novice" for a year as I prepare to become an oblate of St Benedict.

My spiritual life is all over the place and I believe that the discipline of the Rule of St Benedict is just the thing to bring some perspective and focus to me.

I ask for your prayers.

Alex

Dear Brother Alexander,

Frate Alexandru, in Hristos,

I felt true joy seeing that you prepare to become an oblate of Saint Benedict.

May Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, keep you in His unspeakable mercy and peace, in enduring-love and long-patience. Amin!

Do not forget me in your prayer, please.

In Risen Christ, your brother from Danube, Marian

Dear Ebed Melech,

If they give me a new name, instead of "Alexander" I will choose "Alexius!" wink

Thanks to you and to all!

Alex

Holy father Benedict, pray to God for him!

May the Lord direct your steps, as you study your vocation as a Benedictine Oblate.

As an oblate of a particular monastic community. Are you albe to tell us the name of the lucky community? To have you associated with them, I take it they are nice blokes and busy going about the life of work and prayer. Yes, of course you have my prayers as you commence this journey in the faith.

Мир тобі!

St Meinrad's Abbey in St Meinrad Indiana . . .

And, yes, the Director of Oblates is Fr. Meinrad . . . wink

Gotta get back to my "lectio Divina!"

Are Oblates of St. Benedict also allowed to be 'Ukrainian Druids'?!? confused wink confused

(Aren't 'druids' pre-Christian priests of the ancient Celts? According to your profile, you are one. So, since when did you become a Druid?!? Does your spiritual advisor know about this? ) wink eek wink

Alice, who is most concerned about your shifting religious alliances! :p

Dear Alice,

I have never said I was a "Druid."

I don't know who put that in, obviously one of the Moderators who has, whenever I go to change that part of my profile, locked down my profile and is preventing me from changing anything to it.

I don't mind being treated as a child, as indeed I do behave as one here.

However, I would like to ask the Moderator/Administrator who has chosen to poke that sort of fun at me by referring to me as a "Druid" to kindly drop that from my profile and let me return to the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.

I was brought to understand that Ukrainian Catholics aren't ultimately welcomed in the Byzantine Catholic Church (according to some threads in the liturgical section that suggested that was the perspective that motivated some of the mandated liturgical changes).

But are Druids then more palatable to the BCC?

I know the Church isn't democratic. But I hope this Forum isn't dictatorial and oligarchical.

So, whoever put me down as a "Ukrainian Druid" - can you please:

1) give me an "out of jail free" card so I can change my profile and/or"

2) interrupt your no doubt busy schedule to remove that pagan slur against this future Benedictine Oblate?

My Oblate Director won't be smiling when he finds out I'm calling myself a Druid.

And, if you don't make that change, I'll put a Celtic curse on you, something to do with your beard growing long and becoming so steely strong that you won't ever be able to trim it.

So much so, that you won't have to wear clothes in order to cover your nakedness!

Have a nice day!

Back to my incantations . . .

Alex

Dear Charles,

Actually, I'll be connected with a Latin Catholic monastery.

I promise not to try and convince them to have devotions to St Mark of Ephesus . . . wink
