SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTU!

In your charity, please remember me, my ikon teacher and 19 other friends and students as we prepare to paint a new ikonstas.

My teacher was awarded the commission for a new ikonostas and after consulting the commissioning pastor, has decided on an "ikon day" this Saturday, October 18.

The will be gathering to do the "fill-in" work on the ikons, there are 27 of them. We will be painting the backgrounds, the robes, rocks, buildings etc. My teacher will then go back and do the hi-lites, faces and gilding.

We are all excited about this wonderful project!

I will take plenty of pics and hope to share them at a later date....

Thanks in advance!

How wonderful - a whole day immersed in Icons - my prayers will be with you.

I look forward to seeing pics of the work.

Mark--

Is this screen for a new church building or an existing one that never had a screen? Just wondering...

John.

Dear Medved,

Sorry, but I can't pray for any "painting" of an iconostas.

But if you chose to "write one," then, well, yes . . . wink

I hope you put in lots of Orthodox saints . . .

Alex

Well, as I see it the icons may be written, but the ikonostas will probably be painted, or stained or gilded! biggrin

Prayers for Mark and crew in this important and interesting work. smile

Dear Friends,

O.K., my attempt at humour was ill-advised.

Sorry, Medved, this just won't bear out . . .

Paint or write, as long as you won't give me the brush off . . .

SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTU!

Well, since it's my teacher who is ACTUALLY writing the ikons and I'm just doing fill-in work, I guess that makes me a proof-reader or maybe a ghost writer....

John, this is an existing church, it's about 15 years old and this is it's first ikonostas.

Alex, I think this is gonna be a "honey" of an ikonostas! The main ikons are 5'x 8' and the Feast day ikons are 2' x 2'....

God's blessing on Mark, and on everyone else who paints good icons. Is anyone under the impression that a photographer "writes" photographs? Incognitus

A sticky proposition indeed...I simply can't bear it any more, honey... smile If Mark only changed his name to medvedmed eek

Through the prayers of St. Luke the patron of iconographers may the Holy Spirit guide the hands of these icon writers.

SLAVA ISUSU CHRISTU!

I'M BACK!!!!!

IT WAS INCREDIBLE!!!

We got to see the blueprints for the new ikonostas. It will be 40feet wide and 37 feet tall! It will have 40 ikons when completed!

We worked on the 4 main ikons on the lower tier, the 4 Evangelists from the Royal Doors and the 12 Apostles from the top of ikonstas.

Hopefully, the 4 main ikons will be completed and in place before Christmas!

We had something very special happen also during this wonderful time!

A man showed up yesterday morning before we got started. He and his family donated the ikon of Christ the Teacher on the lower tier. He had asked Father if he could put just a couple of brush strokes on the ikon.

My teacher brought him over to the ikon of the Teacher, which is where I happene to be standing, and called everyone over and demonstrated what he wanted done first. My teacher then hand me a brush and handed the man a brush and said get started!

This man got to work not only the ikon he and his family donated but on all the ikons yesterday.

His joy and excitement were very contagious!

We hope to have another "work-day" in the spring to start work on the Festivals.

More about the day later....

May the Iconostasis that you are writing be a true window into heaven for those who worship the Lord and venerate the saints who appear there.

May all of you writers and painters be blessed for what you do.
