My dear brothers and sisters, While joining our administrator in his prayer for the conversion of all peoples (May the Lord God lead all peoples to find Christ the Way, the Truth and the Life)I must add that this topic and our brother Myle's initial post talking about " apostate Europe" do offend me both as Christian and as European. I consider useless a discussion about which countries and continets do remain faithful to the Gospel and which not, I just know that Christians all around the world are called to be salt of the earth and lights in the middle of the darkness of this world. Last Sunday Orthodox and Byzantine Catholics Churches following the Eastern Paschalion did read the parable of the Pharisee and the Publican, which I consider specially usefull when praying for ourselves and other people.
Luke 18:9-14 (9) And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: (10) Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. (11) The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. (12) I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. (13) And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. (14) I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Dear Francisco,
With all due respect and love, dear brother, I sincerely believe that you have completely misread the intent of Myle's (who is British--NOT American and who lives in England) prayer post.
In Christ, Alice

Dear Francisco You are so right. One must certainly search one's own soul before making any manner of judgement about the general state of the enivornment in which we life. For if we elvate ourselves above that place we end up looking down our noses at the people living there and that just wont do. God preserve me from pride, I do not think myself superior in devotion to anyone. Indeed, with my increased knowledge I should be condemned as least for with me the claim of ignorance is not an option. After all Our Lord has done for me I should not be in such a mediocre state of soul I should be a saint. But the sad reality is if not for God I would be even more a child of Hell than I am. Praise Jesus I shall be in a state of purgation for some time on account of my idiocies and unwillingness, though for my ills I dont even deserve to sneak into the Father's house through the backdoor. He is merciful indeed... My point was not to belittle anyone only to bring home the threat highlighted by men like George Weigel in articles like Is Europe Dying? [ eppc.org] , which I have been led to believe through my own day to day experience is real and not some scaremongering tactic. Since Benedict XVI was elected everyone has been asking what he will do about Europe? Had it not been that there was such a glaring problem staring him in the face here I do not believe that would've been the case. I am not special, I am not great, I will probably never be a saint either, but if a doctor is sick does that prevent him from diagnosing sick patients and prescribing remedies? Sick doctor that I am I see that without treatment Europe will indeed die so I am seeking to use the one tonic I have never seen fail: The heart of Mary. My intentions were not to lay blame at anyone's door nor upset anyone's nationhood. The fact that I have placed Our Lady of Fatima on an EU flag for my avatar should testify to the fact that I am not seeking to spit on Europeans with my comments. If you were offended I apologise and if you feel I am arrogant then pray for me to be humble. I am looking for the conversion of all Europeans, especially myself, my own heart needs as much prayers as anyone's. ------------------------------------------------ Memorare Remember O most loving Virgin Mary that it is a thing unheard of that anyone ever had recourse to your protection implored your help or sought your intercession and was left forsaken. Filled therefore with confidence in your goodness I fly to you O mother, virgin of virgins. To you I come, before you I stand, a sorrowful sinner. Despise not my poor words O mother of the Word of God but graciously hear and grant my prayer.

O Most Blessed Ever Virgin Mary, as you did wrap your mantle around Portugal to save it from Communism, do now wrap the entire continent of Europe under your mantle. Protect the peoples of this great continent from the wiles of the devil and his minions. Restore her to her former glory and piety. Let not the forces of secularism and paganism take from your Son Our Lord Jesus Christ what rightly belongs to Him. Pray to Our Divine Lord that Europe may once again be Christendom and that all Christians may once again as they did of old worship together in Spirit and in Truth. May all the Apostolic Churches be united again to confront and conquer the growing tide of secularism.
Pray for us Most Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Amen

I must have missed something but why is Europe being singled out for attention. The whole world needs prayers. It is not more sinful in Europe than anywhere else. They are all at it! So where is the place where they dont have same sex unions, abortions, rape, murder and every other kind of abomination and this is just the things I can think of right now. I am sure the list of sins could just go on. We are all human and we can all manifest great good and great evil. No one part of the world has a monoply on any of these things. Not Europe and not North America and not Oceania. Pray for us all, after all we need it.

Pavel,
It is the request of the one who asked for the prayers.
While we all need prayers, Myles felt at this point in time, that prayers be requested for Europe which is undergoing a number of problems at the moment.

Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

Dear Friends,
A good portion of Europe's problems has to do with the pernicious and materialistic influence of American consumer culture.
May the USA, that has so many Christians who can quote the Bible, match its deeds, nationally and internationally, to the words it speaks in church!

World Catholic population up 1.1% [ cwnews.com] but note what the article has to say about Europe and then tell me that everywhere needs prayer just as much as we do.

ICXC NIKA In Missouri we don't have same sex unions, we voted against it 98% to 2%! If the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs Wade we have enough votes to outlaw abortion in Missouri also. I'm from Illinois originally, so I'm not grandstanding for this former slave state. Just pointing out that this state can and would live up to the morals of the Gospel. "Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of your Dearly Beloved Son Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. For the sake of his sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One have mercy on us and on the whole world." Our Lord's directives on prayer to Saint Faustina; Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
