Sorry - I am not being the clear. that's why I apologized for not being precise before. The movie does NOT explicitly do that. As I explained, it reminds us of the need to take action before the event. When one watches the film, you cannot help but ask yourself how things might have turned out differently had these individuals been identified and caught prior to Tuesday, Sept 11.

Could monitoring and taking action based on wiretaps have helped? Possibly - who knows.

I personally made the connection from the movie to the NSA wiretaps, reinforcing (for me, anyway) the reasonableness of the position of the Bush administration on monitoring inbound international calls to persons of interest here in the states. In the current milieu, the movie is a compelling reminder of our need for vigilence.

I'd say it is not a matter of political opportunity but one of whether or not this President is breaking the law. It seems Dubya thinks he's above it...

Like Fr. Anthony, I have no plans to see the movie either, but for different reasons. It really just doesn't interest me especially since all we've been hearing about is 9/11 for the past four and a half years. The entire thing was a tragedy and good people died but really doesn't skim the surface of other tragedies that have occurred before and since then. That is not to trivialize or downplay the heroic and patriotic sacrifices these Americans made.

But to all those who do wish to see it, I will say that I saw some of the actors interviewed on (horror of horrors to some here) CNN on Larry King, and they said that 10% of all ticket sales this opening weekend go to some kind 9/11 fund or something of the sort.

What you advocate is reasonable, and it is lawful provided that within three days a warrant is obtained from the court showing the why the persons are "of interest". But this is not the position of the Bush administration, which asserts that no showing before a court is necessary, and that any persons, irrespective of any showing of "interest", may be monitored.
