All,

Who here knows exactly who were the Eastern Catholic prlates invited to attend the Papal funeral. And who actually attended.
When the supplication (prayers) was given by the Eastern Catholic bihsops who participated in that?
Just curious,

I've viewed a photo of some participating eastern hierachs among whom is Bishop Ercole Lupinacci of the Eparchy of Lungro (Calabria) of the Italo-Albanians.

Thanks Vito for your response!
I apologize for my own delay in thanking you. wink

During the Supplication of the Eastern (Oriental) Churches at the Papal funeral, I was wondering if those prelates surrounding the Holy Father's coffin-were ALL of the major hierarchs of our 22~ Eastern Catholic churches?

In other words, were all of the sui iuris churches in union with Rome present at the funeral? If so, does anyone here know of a list somewhere online of who-was-who?

I am aware of the strong Eastern Orthodox presence as well, and I myself have found the listing of the EO churches in attendance. But for some reason cannot find any mention of the EC churches present.

Anyhow , just curious about this. If anyone here can help it would be greatly appreciated.

God Bless

Dear ProCatholico:

In the official list of attendees issued by the Vatican, the Eastern Catholic Churches were not included because, together with the Latins, they were the hosts, i.e., The Catholic Church was the host.

I think the only way to form a list of Eastern Catholic hierarchs present at the funeral would be to re-view the telecast! biggrin

At any rate here [vatican.va] is the list.

ProCatholico,

I doubt that all were represented, there weren't 22 individuals in the group near the foot of the casket during the prayers. We know, for a fact, that there was no Georgian presence, as they have no surviving clergy, let alone a hierarch.

I didn't see Archimandrite Sergius, Apostolic Visitator of the Belarusians, and the Major-Archbishop of the Syro-Malankara, if there, was not obvious. From reports here, there seems to be agreement that Metropolitan Basil wasn't in attendance, altho Bishop John Kudrick was there.

It's difficult to know whether the other, small sui iuris Churches were represented - the Greeks, Albanians, Bulgarians, etc. There seem to be a dearth of photos of the clergy assembled for the prayers, at least any at an angle that permit ready identification.

Many years,

Neil
