I am sorry that you have chosen to continue to open this can of worms. You force me to now close this thread to avoid it turning into another argument.

Please consider that the pronunciation of the term �Kiev� on the BBC varies with the news reader. In recent weeks I have heard on the BBC (which we do get in America) several different pronunciations. Mostly the standard English language pronunciation is used, but I have also heard the one you have referenced.

In its written news stories the BBC continues to use only �Kiev�, as does almost everyone else in the English speaking world. They seem to use alternate spellings only when quoting a written source that spells it differently.
