Umm Lawrence

I think that really depends on your own height and the height of the Priest . Agreed it is easier to do that sometimes , particularly when there are no Servers with a Communion Cloth.

I noticed almost everyone doing this sort of knee bend at the Ukrainian Rite church I sometimes attend. Tall, short, most of them seemed to be doing it.

On a related issue; whilst I recieve the Sacrament standing, regardless of the Rite (with one exception; a Polish parish seemed to favour kneeling for Altar Servers, which I was), I have another question.

In the Eastern Church, is it common for people to genuflect, prostrate themselves, etc. before receving the host (at the pre-communion prayer)?

Dear Ned,

In our parish (Ruthenian Orthodox Catholic), a significant portion of the faithful that approach the Holy Cup will move to the front of the Tetrapod, bow (with blessing themselves), venerate the icon, bow and bless themselves again, then return back to line, and some then will bow again in front of the Holy Cup. Almost every single person will then bless themselves again after receiving the Eucharist.

Michael
