Dear Alex,
I see you have brought up once again, this old English usage, popularized in recent years by Mr. Rumpole, of blessed memory. Our late President Truman commonly refered to his Partner as "The Boss".
As you know, we in the USA have become somewhat multicultural in recent decades and some "Spanglish" has come into usage. I have come to prefer a Spanish description for the Lady of the House, affectionately and phonetically described as "El Why-foe".
Now, get back too work!!! :p
