I recall seing a picture from a Cathloic Seminary in Lviv that featured some acolytes in Sticharions and some in Latine style surplice and cassock. I sthat common in the Ukrainian rite?

Who were the ones in Latin choir dress? There are RCs in Lviv their Archbishop is also a Cardinal. Byzantines are not supposed to dress up as Latins, they have their own choir dress.

Sorry about your hair loss both from the head and from the face. My wife encourages by facial growth. The alternative is less desirable I suppose. Since icons are spiritual representations you may wish to take heart. In the world to come you may wind up with both head and facial hair. It's fun to be Byzantine.

No, as an altar boy in the Latin Rite, before VAT 2 we wore white gloves while carying the processional cross. I see the altar servers wearing gloves the flabelia too. That makes sense. Ok, maybe not for the candles. But young boys hands' sweat a lot. So its safer to have gloves on in case of slipage.

The gloves referred to here are an actual form of liturgical vestment. In the pre-Vatican II usage, only bishops (or abbots entitled to pontificalia) were allowed to wear liturgical gloves.

It was not at all uncommon for acolytes in the Roman Rite (and for that matter in the Episcopal Church as well) to wear white cotton gloves if they were handling brass (processional cross, candlesticks, etc). It was as much a protection for the brass as for the hand.

Ah, the Byzantine Forum, the only place in cyberspace where one can devote hours in arguing liturgical minutiae....
When I saw the heading for this thread, I expected to see boys in black cassocks with forty buttons and little white surplices, maybe a statue of the Immaculate Heart in the background.
Instead, beautiful icons, richly brocaded vestments, an obviously Byzantine sensibility.
And best of all, excruciating conversation on the tiniest details of liturgical dress.
What a forum! :p

Kids wearing Latin albs under a very very short Byzantine stikharion. The walls do have nice icons granted. De-uniatising is process and some places will be always lagging behind others. It's just sad in 2006 to see such things and to put it out on the interent for all to see. The fact is it should not be, as for the gloves I wont got there, enough said already.
