Folks, You'll be happy to know that I have recently sent a letter to the York (an area north of Toronto where I live)Catholic District School Board commenting on their admission criteria (see below) I advised them that there are many Catholics in York Region who are not "Roman" or to be correct, Latin, and that these Catholics are in full communion with Rome and the See of Peter. I also suggested that they remove the word "Roman" from the fist criterion.
Standard Admission Criteria: The parent/guardian must provide the following documents for each child to be considered for admission:
Roman Catholic Baptismal Certificate (child or parent) Birth Certificate Health Card Proof of Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status or other valid Legal Status

Dear Brad,
Did you ever get a chance to visit my in-laws' parish, Big Guy?
Anyway, good for you.
I worked for the Metropolitan Board one summer and it became painfully clear to me that they really have no idea about the EC's and their traditions.
In fact, when I was there, one teacher who was of the UGCC was denied a promotion as head of a religion department because he wasn't RC.
This was written up in a Catholic paper at the time and the board that denied him his posting simply said that since he wasn't "Roman Catholic" that he couldn't properly teach both Catholic faith and practice to their students.
God bless,
Alex

Welcome back Alex, I hope you are staying and not just teasing us with cameo appearances now and then. I took a drive by your in-laws parish on my way home from work. St Volodymyr's is a beautiful quaint church from the outside, as well as the a grotto of the miraculous Icon of Our Lady of Zhirovits around it. Unfortunately I have not been able to attend a DL yet but plan to in the future.

Hmmmm... seems I've heard about this school district before... they've got this heavy-handed school board president... hmmmm, what was his name again?? Oh, yeah! Now I remember! Fellow by the name of John Ireland, isn't it??

Dear Intrigued L: I don't know if I heard it right the first time: that Catholic education in Canada (up to high school?) is free, i.e., the State funds both public- and private-run (mostly Catholic) schools? If so, the York School District might just be following the provisions of the law that allows State/government funding for private schools run by the "Roman" Catholic Church. Then, the effective venue would be a campaign for an amendment of that law. Just a shot at the moon! Amado

Good thing Alice isn't on this thread becasue she might get worried about someone saying that they were sending her to the moon.
OK, OK. I'm going, I'm going (back to lurk mode).

You know - the Honeymooners! Where Ralph (Jackie Gleeson) gets angry with his wife, shakes his fist at her, and says:
"TO THE MOON, ALICE!"
