This Sunday, March 12, is the sixth anniversary of a glorious Confessor of the Faith, +Ignatius Cardinal Kung. I invite everyone to read about this holy man: http://www.cardinalkungfoundation.org/ May we all experience the help of his powerful prayers. Silouan, monk

Thanks for the reminder. I again recommend devotion to Li ma-tou (Matteo Ricci) and a careful consideration of his methods.

Dear Incognitus,
As follower of the events of Chinise Christianity, maybe it would help since you made mention twice of Matteo Ricci if you could post a link or some information. I of all people would be most appreciative. Thanking you in advance.
In IC XC, Father Anthony+
Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

Don't know of any link. However, there is (or was) an Image Book biography called The Wise Man From the West which I've found readable and good.
Just checked Google. The book mentioned above is by Vincent Cronin, published in 1955 and evidently still available and in demand. Also note:
China and Christianity: Burdened Past, Hopeful Future, edited by Stephen Uhalley, Xiaoxin Wu. Looks downright fascinating - I intend to read it ASAP. One chapter discusses Eastern Orthodoxy in China.

Bless, Father Silouan!
Thank you for that link!
I heard about a Chinese Catholic hierarch who was imprisoned by the communists for 27 years.
He only had a small window that was too high for him to reach . . .
And all he did, since he didn't have any books, was to pray the Rosary, over and over again, meditating on the various mysteries, and using his ten fingers as counters . . .
We should always remember that when we are away from our religious beads, prayer ropes, books etc., that we always have our fingers on which to count our prayers wherever we are!
I too would like to know more about the life of Matteo Ricci - would he be up for canonization?
Interestingly, the Catholic Church in Korea has a fascinating history.
Koreans went to China to investigate the patrimony left behind by Matteo Ricci. After studying Catholicism, they fell in love with it!
And they went back to Korea and formed the first "Korean Catholic Church" - complete with laity, priests, bishops, rosaries etc.
The only problem was, of course, that none of them was even baptised . . .
When the Catholic missionaries came to Korea, they already found what they thought was the product of a former mission effort there . . .
They were so shocked to find out the Koreans accepted the Catholic faith on their own and only needed valid Baptism and the rest of the Sacraments/Mysteries!
