Shlomo Lkhoolkhoon,
Here is a web site produced by Christian Palestinians.

http://www.HolyLandChristians.com

Below are its goals.

Poosh BaShlomo lkhoolkhoon,
Yuhannon

*************************************************

Guiding Principles goals

1) Acknowledging the joint future for Christians and Moslems in Palestine.

2) The Holy Bible constitutes our source of inspiration.

3) Courage and wisdom derived from justice of the Palestinian cause, the desire to contribute to peace-building for all peoples, while not compromising the right of the Palestinian people in establishing a free state on all the territories occupied in 1967 with Jerusalem as its Capital, the right of return for refugees, and U.N. resolutions as the basis especially 242, 338 and 194.

4) Democracy as the basis for the independent Palestinian state.

5) Accepting non-violence as the method for resisting the occupation.

6) Adherence to all international conventions that protect human rights.

Aims and Mechanisms Adopted by the Laity Committee

1) To build a Christian Palestinian organization that will best represent the aspiration of most Palestinian Christians and that will organize their role in society. The Laity Committee is the preparatory body for that organization.

2) To Activate the role of Christians in political matters. a) To coordinate with all segments of Palestinian society. b) To exert influence over decision-makers through media work. c) To raise the level of religious and political awareness.

3) To activate the role of Christians in Palestinian society a) To support a culture among Christian Palestinians that defends democracy, human rights, nonviolence, and justice and peace. b) To cooperate with existing organizations that benefit local society.

4) To strengthen cooperation with local churches Through full and open coordination with local churches, and through assuming responsibility as lay people, the Committee will encourage the faithful to practice religion, to participate in functions with the various denominations, and to participate with religious leaders in drafting visions and decisions that affect all aspects of life.

Dear Yuhannon,

An interesting site. I hope the Laity Committee can bridge gaps between the various Christian groups and that their work is successful in building a free and peaceful Palestine. I saw a small article about a Palestinian Priest who want to organize a pilgrimage to Auschwitz. The following is from EWTN.

---------------------------------

PALESTINIAN PRIEST PROPOSES PILGRIMAGE TO AUSCHWITZ

JERUSALEM, FEB. 5, 2003 (Zenit.org).- It was big news in Israel: Father Emile Shoufani, an ethnic Palestinian of Israeli nationality, is organizing a pilgrimage "of knowledge and understanding" to Auschwitz.

The Greek-Melkite rite priest, director of St. Joseph's School in Nazareth, made his proposal for 150 Christian Arabs, 150 Jews and 150 Muslim Arabs.

If he cannot find enough Muslim Arab pilgrims, Father Shoufani will invite 150 Muslims of France, where he is well known, in part for his book "Le Cur de Nazareth" ("The Parish Priest of Nazareth").

In statements published today in the Italian newspaper Avvenire, Father Shoufani said that with "the Palestinian intifada, almost a total break has been created between the Israeli and Arab peoples. It is necessary to break the cycle of violence and hatred, and to rebuild a climate of trust."

Explaining why he decided on the pilgrimage to the site of the Nazi death camp in Poland, he said: "I think that such a step could help. It is a trip to get to know a place in which the Jewish people lived a reality that has not been understood, and on which many of their reactions today depend."

----------------------------------------

May the Lord bless these efforts toward peace and human rights in the Holy Land.

May God speed Father Emile's work of reconciliation and peace. It is through these efforts that true peace will come- mutual understanding!
