Dear American Friends,
I saw the State of the Union address last night and wanted to say how impressed I truly was with it.
You are really a country and a great one at that.
We're nothing by comparison to you. (Loved the red-white-blue suits outfits of the President et al.)
God bless America!

Thank you Alex! Truly it is nice to hear that someone likes us out there. Honestly, no matter what side you are on in America it get tiresome to continually hear from our media about the countries (mainly in Europe) that are currently not likeing what we are doing. Rarely, if ever, does one hear about the people that do like us and appreciate what we are trying to do in this world. How it is a slap in the face of our allies like Britain, Poland, Italy, and others to be thrown to the side like they are!

Stephen,
Jealousy is hard to overcome. Remember how much and for how long France resented the fact that French was no longer viewed as the universal language. One wonders if the German envy doesn't spring from their two failed attempts to conquer much of the world. What would some of these countries do if they didn't have us to protect their sorry butts?

Thank you Alex.
Despite what the media reports, there LOTS of decent people in the USA and elsewhere.
God bless Canada too!

I was just going to post a thread about the very same topic. I too watched the State of the Union address last night (had no choice, as we up here in Canada are infiltrated with American TV) and was very impressed with George W. Although I still do not support his position on the war, I am slowly coming around to believing that he is a good President. He's maintained his position on many controversial policies for the good of the nation.
God Bless America

Dan L Absolutly. How wonderful it is to hear the world admitting that the election in Iraq was a success! Truly it is a great thing that Democracy is headding to the middle east. It has a while to go, but you have to start somewhere. In His Name, Stephen

United States Consitution, Art. II, Sec. 3: He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.... And that he certainly did. Yours, hal

Dan L I wish we as Americans would remind ourselves that these are sovereign nations with a right to a foreign policy which does not have to mirror ours. We want allies not a repetition of the Warsaw Pact.

I looked at the speech, in light of having spent a few hours talking to my cousin who lost her son in Afghanistan. She's a tough lady, like that Marine's mom who embraced the Iraqi woman who just voted. She's turned her grief to action - helping soldiers through a phone card charity she set up and being like a mom to the soldiers in her son's old unit. I couldn't stop thinking of her and her son when I saw the Iraqi and Afghani women sitting with Mrs. Bush.
Anyway, the embrace of those women meant more than all the words the President uttered. Words fail. I know I had to wipe away a tear.

Annie I saw that, but it didn't connect until I read your words. Thanks for the reminders and thanks for the tears of joy that comes when one loves another. Especially thanks to God for people like you aunt who give so freely and completely of themselves. The people in Afganistan were blessed to have the opprotunity to vote because of men like her son.
Thank you Jesus.
It is not about changing people totally to our form of government but it is about human rights. Giving people the opportunity to think and live for themsleves. I was reminded recently about the way women are treated by their husbands in many of the Islamic countries. In this country, USA, they would be restrained or imprisoned for what they do to women. But they have no choice but to bear the burdens. We, the US, don't do everything right by any means of the imagination, but are bringing HOPE! Without hope people parish.
Yesterday at the doctors office I talked with a young man who is in a wheelchair. He said he thanked God for the wheelchair, because without it he would not have "been born again". He had a tumor on his back that covered his whole spine. The surgeons removed it, but it left him paralyzed from his waist down, but he said thank you Jesus. But comeing to the doctor yesterday was a new start, a new day, he had hope. Some movement was returning to his legs, and now seeing Dr. Kennedy he hoped someday he would be able to get up and walk again. The medicine had been very painful, if the surgeons didn't remove the tumor his life would be much worse but, if they did he may never walk. Not much of a choice. But he lives, a new day has come. That is kind of like the people in Afganistan and Iraq, the medicine for the problem was hard, the surgeons are removing the tumor that was taking their life, and now they have HOPE THEY WILL WALK AGAIN.

Brad Satan can appear as an angel of light. Funny how he never mentioned any of the mistakes his administration has made... Wrecking the US economy, getting us involved in an immoral and illegal war, trashing our reputation around the world, throwing out civil liberties, using religion as a cloak to achieve devious ends and lying to Americans and the peoples of the world. Now he is wanting to dismantle Social Security so his buddies on Wall Street can make more money, while costing taxpayers billions. What a wonderful president he is!

Oops! I forgot that on this forum one doesn't make statements like that. For many forum members Dubya is omniscent, omnipresent and omnipotent. I guess I will be burned at the stake for not offering my pinch of incense at the altar of one I consider a false god and minion of the dark powers.

Dear Moe, But, in John Kerry's defence, he was there last night and did, on at least one occasion, clap for President Bush . . . And I don't burn anyone at the stake, Moe. Perhaps you've confused me with Dan . . . (Dan, I'm joking, O.K.?) I think the idea of the "immoral war," while plausible, is less of an issue today than yesterday. The election in Iraq has tended to change even many Democrats' thinking on that. And since Mr. Bush is a president, and not a pope, he is fallible. But the Democratic opposition last night failed to articulate anything really damaging about Mr. Bush. In fact, the Democratic opposition is positively toothless and pathetic - pathetic in trying to scramble and see on what conservative points they can score with the people. But they can't and, for now, they haven't a hope period. But, hey, if you don't like the U.S., come up here to Canada! And depending on what sector you want to work in, make sure your French skills are darn good . . . It's too bad they didn't have you on TV last night to respond to the State of the Union address from the Democrats. You would have made much more interesting listening. Alex
