Can anyone provide a good home for this Evangelion [cgi.ebay.com] ? Unfortunately, I am not in the position to make a bid on this item.

I would chip in $20. Maybe Father Anthony would know of a good place for it to go. Could it be donated to a GO parish or Holy Cross Seminary?

Gordo, Christ is Risen!

I am sure that a church that would treasure and venerate it could be found easily. The point being is that it does not fall in to the hands of someone that may not have reverence for it.

The first priority would be to liberate it from the grips of an online auction.

In the Risen Christ,
Father Anthony+

PS I will also match your contribution.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, you hear the hearts of your people present here crying out for a book that must have been so loved by your priest servant. Jesus make a way where we see no way, get this precious book into hands that will love and care for it. In your name Jesus all things are possible. Amen.

A common urban legend is that doctors are rich. Maybe Atkins, Perricone, Agaston, et al are. Not this one, I have $137,000+ in school loans and probably another $100K in business debt. Plus, malpractice insurance and the managed care groups have managed to take their share as well.

But I'd contribute as much as I could if we could really do it and make sure everyone pays his/her share. I wonder if we could start a not-for-profit group to buy back these relics and other holy items.

Still no bids on it. Though it is the type of thing to hold off on bidding for until the last minute. I'd suggest any further discussion should be made in private as this is a public forum. It would stink if the author of the ebay auction saw this thread and then bid against you in an effort to raise the price and see how high you'd go or some such. With such limited funds available, he'd probably fail at such a plot pretty quickly. However, I wouldn't put it past some people trying. Any museums or historical societies who might like to pitch in perhaps? I don't people on general care where the money is coming from for the most part, so long as it is coming. Still 5 days to plan...

Father Anthony,

I agree. I would help to coordinate this, but I will be travelling the day the auction ends. Is there anyone willing to be the buyer here?

Gordo, Christ is Risen!

I am serious also, but I would rather someone else handle the bidding and money situation. Then it can be decided as to where to place it. As far as going private on the discussion we have two options, one being Pani Rose's online chat area that is sponsored by Jason (Roman Redneck) or our ByzChat area if it still exists. We have to hurry though, because the bidding closes this Saturday.

Father Anthony+

I will send you a PM on my thoughts regarding this ASAP. The morning coffee is hitting the brain and I have an idea. No bids yet! biggrin

Christ is Risen!

Several members of the Forum have been discussing this item via PM and interest has been shown in possibly as a collective group bidding and possibly if the bid is won donating the item to a church or seminary. Details are being worked out. Hopefully, by this evening or tomorrow morning we will be able to make known our plans in this venture and invite those that are interested in participating.

Please check back on this thread this evening and in the morning. Hopefully, we will as a group be able to help place this gospel book in place of veneration.

In the Risen Christ,
Father Anthony+

Christ is Risen!

I know time is of the essence in this matter, but things are being worked out so that we can collectively do this as a group. Please bear with us as we set this up right, so that if something comes along we will not have such a delay.

Please know that there are several members working on getting this done in a proper manner. If it was up to one individual, it would be much easier, but several have indicated a willingness to be involved.

I will keep you posted.

In the Risen Christ,
Father Anthony+

Christ is Risen!

Yesterday myself and a few other posters Catholic, Byzantine Catholic, and Orthodox came up with the idea of setting up a fraternal association with the aim of bidding for this item and God-willing winning the bid and donating it to either Holy Cross Seminary or another institution of the Greek Orthodox Church. It was suggested that the aim be expanded to work for ongoing purchases of items sacred and donate them to an appropiate church body. This would include authenticated relics, and other sacred items that would either wind up in a private holding or possibly not be venerated. I have also sought the approval of our forum administrator before bringing this to public attention, of which he has given his "blessing".

Well, the paperwork is much more involved than originally anticipated. I have a few of our posters (again Catholic of both varieties and Orthodox) dedicated to be active to monitor any funds used in this purpose, and all donors to the cause would have a voting say in how the funds are to be expended with full open disclosure to all involved.

Beacuse of the delay that will be necessary to process the paperwork with the appropiate goverment agencies, I can not see the formation of the fraternal group completed for a couple of weeks.

What I propose is that I will make the bid on eBay using my bidding account and using my personal credit card to secure the transaction if the bid is successful. Any posters t hat are willing to contribute can contact me via PM, and I will give them the proposed name of the association, and instructions to were to post the check. When all the paperwork has cleared and a proper account can be set up, I will request the reimbursement for the evangelion. I will also contact Holy Cross Seminary or Saint Basil Academy to see if either will accept the donattion and if they would please acknowledge each contributor individually for the appropiate tax deduction paperwork.

I want this handled clear and above board for all so that no question will be had. I have been in contact with one of our members that is in the banking industry and he will be ultimately handling all the final financial details.

Again any questions or information, please feel to PM me.

In the Risen Christ,
Father Anthony+
