Hi,

It is quite simple, actually. Our Lord said "...I was a stranger and you welcomed me..."

Their Prophet did not say anything like it.

It is, therefore, quite easy to understand that they do not think their faith compells them to receive the stranger as we think our faith compells us to do.

Memo,

You are correct, but we should NEVER cover up the Theotokos! To heck with any who thinks other wise.

Well, I guess as a precaution it might be acceptable.

After all, these people are non-Christians, so any disrespect for our sacred images would be worse than temporarily covering them while the church is being used as shelter.

Don't you think?

I'm all for the church giving aid to these folks, but I cannot say that I favor their use of a sanctuary per se. I wonder why a church hall could not be used if one exists? By all means - demonstrate Christian hospitality to them, but I think this goes too far, especially given Islamic replacement theology vis-a-vis Christianity.

And re: the point made earlier about the fact that once Islamic services are held in a building it is forever a Mosque - that is more than a bit unsettling.

I say:

I wouldn't worry about it. The Muslims also believe that once they live in place they must not leave, and if they are a minority they are thereby persecuted, and must become a majority, etc. etc.

The Europeans are a little more intolerant than us. Maybe because they've lived in their 'space' longer than us and have a longer history and heritage.

Oh and that's right! Wasn't it Julius Caesar that said of all the Gauls, the Belgei were the most heroic. I don't expect them to give up their country very easily. wink

They are giving them Santuary in the traditional understanding of the term. If they are removed by force the authorities will have to do it from a Church, not quiet the same thing as removing people from a Church hall. It put the authorities in an awkward situation. These people are illegals and no doubt coached by their hosts they will put up a wonderful display for the TV camera. Sort of things that could bring down a government if it was put to the test.

One would have thought they might have learnt something from the occupation of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, where they stole left right and centre during their occupation of the building.

I seriously doubt that any of the refugees from Bethlehem are involved in this case.

Therefore, I find your remarks not only pointless, but slanderous.

How would you react if a non-Christian would hold you accountable for every crime committed by anyone claiming to be a Christian? A certain Adolph Hitler comes to mind, just for starters.

Since when did Adolph claim to be Christian? It is such a shame that the whole Muslim world is a place to flee from and there are no Muslims countries to flee to. Now that is a slander on the part of those claiming to flee!
I have the expereince of involvement with people awaiting deportation, having been assessed as not being genuine refugees. Their advocates in the community tried everything possible to prevent them leaving and coached them on how to be difficult. It just dragged the process on for the people and their families in detention.

Oh and I thought you were responsible for the Crusades and western colonialism.

I say for shame, it is quite clear the god they worship is not our Living God, and as such the Roman bishops are allowing the defiling of the assembly. What's next, the Romans allow blood offerings to Mithras in their churches?

Considering Adolf Hitler was having Alfred Rosenburg create a new "Germanic" religion it would hardly seem that he considered himself a Christian. He was merely smarter than the communists in the ways in which he tried to get Germans out of the Church.

The VAST, and I mean VAST, majority of so called "ayslum seekers" in any European country are there are bogus claims. They are economic immigrants that are trying to get around the ever tightening immigration policy of the western European nations. I really do not believe the Romans should be using Church property to assist them in committing a crime. I'm deeply sorry their Muslim brothers won't help them, but they all cannot flood into Europe or western Europe is going to be just as bad off as the Muslim world. Why not attempt to reform Islam, or better yet they could all covert to Christianity. You know a little more "he that is without sin can cast the first stone" and a lot fewer public beheadings will really go along way towards fixing social problems.

That IS the point, look at France last fall. They are flooding in to take over, and claim it for their 'god'. Now, to the shame of that Priest and parish, their sanctuary will have to be cleansed and rededicated, at least according to EO custom (just as if an animal, or blood letting had occured). It is a little unsettling what is NOT being seen as a take over. What is going to stop this. God help us all. mik

Here's to hoping a Pope or Patriarch prays with some Orthodox Catholics in Hagia Sophia, Constantinoplis sometime this autumn so it will revert to a church and take in christian refugees smile
