An astounding assertion has been made that at least one person on this forum believes Mr. Bush is a god. He even accuses others of believing the same thing. I believe a poll is in order.

I think it's quite possible that he is Satan incarnate, or at least that his VP is!

I very much dislike this thread and poll but will allow it for the moment. I dislike it because there is no history of anyone on this forum calling the president a god, although there are several who have called him a false god.
If any Christian here desires to make the formal accusation against someone else for being Satan, Satan incarnate, or something similar they had better provide chapter and verse of the offense, Church teaching that shows such an offense is indeed satanic, and be able to defend their charge. If they do not they will loose their posting privileges. I state right now that statements like I think the war is evil so Bush is Satan or I think that the Democrats support of abortion means all Democrats are Satan are not acceptable. An acceptable statement is I believe that person As position on Issue X is evil because of reasons B, C, and D found in Church teaching Y and Z.
I ask Logos Teen to either provide such evidence to support the serious charge he has made or to withdraw the charge. If not, he will loose his posting privileges.
I recommend to those people who dislike President Bushs and Republican policies to comment on his policies and not his person.
Similarly, I recommend to those who dislike the policies of the Democrat Party to comment on those policies.
This is not a suggestion. This is a Forum requirement.
Speak about issues and ideas.
Do not denigrate individuals.

Why thank you Ray. Apparently you aren't keeping up with all of the posts. I too have other things to do but I did note that one of the regulars here called him a false god and charged that others thought he was a god.

I have read or seen it elsewhere when Pres. G.W. became "God." Back in 2000, at the Texas White House, one of the reporters gasped upon hearing the U.S. Supreme Court decision favoring Bush: "Oh, my God, Al Gore lost the election!" Passing by her (she must have been female), G.W. Bush interjected: "Did you call me?" And the rest is, as they say, history! Amado

I will not comment on the soul of our President because I do not know him personally. I respect the office of the Presidency, and out of that respect, I will not degrade the man.
I do, however, disagree with many of his policies, especially the war.
Only human in history has been God, and I pretty sure it wasn't a man from Texas.

I had hoped that when the election ended, some of the political stuff would die down. I guess I need to make that a prayer intention.

Well, the results are in. Most of the posters on this forum do not think that Mr. Bush is a god. For that I am very thankful. It helps to confirm my decision to join the BC Church a few years ago. Perhaps those who think he is a god should go to your confessor. Perhaps those who were offended by this poll should take a vacation and enjoy life more.
As much as I appreciate the passion behind the original poster who prompted this poll I think that sometimes we all need to be teased out of our overly strident displays and see humor in our excesses. Since the point has been made I wouldn't mind if this poll now disappeared.

Hmm. It looks like there are several "true believers."
I am opposed to Bush on the invasion of Iraq, the Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, putting the USA back into UNESCO, "civil unions" for same-sex couples, and a lot of other issues.
Under Bush's watch (and active direction), the last vestiges of republican government have been swept away from this land. The executive branch has been expanded at the expense of the balance of powers, the federal government has been expanded at the expense of the states, and governmental authority has been increased immensely at the expense of the citizens. America has become a global empire with client states on the other side of the world. The sun never sets on our dominions--and Bush is apparently willing to expand our military involvement in the Middle East rather than shrink it.
Abortion continues, while Bush spends his "political capital" elsewhere. One day, pro-life America will wake up to the fact that they have been hoodwinked all along by the careerist politicians in the GOP. Maybe that day will come soon, when the Republican party nominates pro-abort Giuliani for President, and the GOP's paid spokesmen in the NRLC urge us to vote for the "lesser of two evils" once more.

I'd love to offer an alternative. I think that the alternative should be pro-life Christians punishing Republicans at the polls by voting in large numbers for third-party candidates who actually support their beliefs.
If the Bushes and Santorums of the world lose a few elections due to lack of pro-life support, because they failed to stand on principle--instead of being rewarded by us for their refusal to stand on principle--we might actually see some willingness among Republicans to act on abortion. But as long as they can continue in their current halfast ways, and not worry about losing our support, they will.

Logos Teen I suppose one might say all of life is satanic. After all is he the ruler of "the powers and prince of the air." There's nothing more or less "satanic" about this administration's policies than there are about any administration's policies. It's just that this kind of satanical rhetoric is as useful as nothing at all. dan l

LatinTrad I agree with this post. I voted for a minor party candidate in the last election. For me to vote for the "lesser of two evils", in my mind, would be for me to still condone that evil.

Berean, preach on brother! I am in the same boat, having switched to independent some time ago as a matter of conscience after having been a life-long Repub, including past state party committee member delegate.
I have never in my life been so at peace voting my conscience as this election. Needless to say I also did not vote for either "major party" candidate.
Percentages mean nothing, and have meant nothing since one man, the Logos Incarnate and his twelve followers made up the smallest "minority party" of the first century. There are always alternatives, although many would like to put their heads in the sand of "lesser of two evils".
Lesser of evils is still objectively evil. One can make whatever Machiavellian arguments to attempt to justify, but the objective reality remains. We've hashed many times over the Santorum betrayal of Toomey, and Spector's tarnished record, etc. Sellouts like that in the name of the "party" are simply unconscienable to any Catholic or true believing Christian and further incentive to get off the carousel.

It doesn't insure anything, but it allows me to vote fo a candidate who is opposed to ALL abortions. Voting for a major candidate also insures nothing.

LatinTrad I'm sorry but I find the above absurd. If you were to follow the politics in Washington, which is readily available on the many Evangelical, etc. sites, you would know the only way that abortion could be stopped is by appointing conservative judges to the bench. So far, it has been very difficult. One of the reasons so many voted for our President, was so that we would hopefully have a majority in the Senate. What is happening, is that the conservative judges appointed by Pres. Bush, are not being brought to a vote by the Senate. This is undemocratic. The reason for this is: In order to stop the filibustering that was bound to occur by the Democrats towards any of Pres. Bush's conservative appointee's, they had decided in the Senate, that everything should be passed by a certain committee before being brought to a vote. Now, for one, we have Senator Schumer on that committee, and he (a very liberal Democrat), will not allow any of the President's appointee's to be brought to a vote. Now do you understand what's going on? I'm terribly sorry if I sound a little rude, but it's getting tireing trying to combat all the 'spin' that the Democrats keep spewing out. If you truly want to do something about abortion, then give your full support to our President, because he is going to have a big fight on his hands. A fight that will determine the future of our nation for the next forty years. Zenovia

... one thing I like about the "strict" Jews here - They still are unable to say the name of God - they use "Hashem" ("The Name" in English) or "Adonai" ("My Lord") the closest thing is "Alokim" ... At the meantime we are stuck comparing the Lord Almighty to a politician who cannot get his name spelled right ...
Maybe im young and have not seen much in life - but i bet if our Lord was a politician He would probably do what all politicians do: BLAME THE ARABS FOR BEING TERRORISTS AND CALL FOR WAR ... ehem ... and i think the cross would be out of the question ... just a point that may raise some thoughts ...

Well, if Pres. Bush is a god, he must be a monotheistic one with conservative values, but if Pres. Clinton was also a god, then I think that he was definitely more of the Mt. Olympus type! LOL! (I think the topic is innapropriate, and the negative comments and sarcasms made by both Americans and foreigners here to be somewhat offensive, so I am trying to make light of the subject matter... I respect and find good in all our presidents, imperfect creatures, unlike the rest of us--ofcourse-- that they may be!) In Christ, Alice

Dear DJS,
No I didn't vote yes. Come on, it would have been a joke. He's only human, but he is sincere, and I do believe he is trying to do what is best for our nation and the world.
I also believe that if certain elements within our society weren't trying to do everything to descredit him, they would probably agree with most of his stances.

To All,
Because a rediculous poll was made on whether President Bush was a god, I have to assume that they mean the head of an empire.
Now I know the French refer to us as 'the Empire'. They are faulty in their reasoning, because an empire rules over different people and cultures. As far as I can tell, we still speak English...and we are all citizens, or potential one's. Also, we had no intention of retaining either Germany or Japan after the Second World War.
Actually though, I believe many of the problems that had occurred in the past century, (including Vietnam and the Middle East), was because France was insisting on acquiring and retaining her colonies...in order, of course, to compete with other 'empires'.
But as the Greeks say, we can only judge others through ourselves. France, and the nations under her influence, are certainly looking at us through their own eyes...or the eyes of France.
The problem is that the Europeans cannot equate religion with politics. To them, being conservative and religious can only be related to a 'nationalistic' tendency. I recall so well what one European newspaper said when Reagan was elected, "America has voted in a Fascist".
