Edward dear, That's a heck of a head of hair and facal fungus. Per my possibly rusty memories of other threads about topics like this one, might I have the temerity to ask who that is in the pic? (Or is it time to air the horrible pun - "Edward, Ainu him not so well!" ?? ) Cheers from one who has not the genetics for a beard, and way too much "up front" as it were to ever pass as a man.... Sharon

So ... will priests be consistent and promise celibacy too? Jesus wasn't married, unless you've been reading recent Mary Magdalen books ...
How far do we take the icon thing? Is this similar to the in persona Christi theology?
Just a wondering, Joe [/b]Priests don't need to promise celibacy, as among the original chosen were maried men, so obviously Christ Himself did not require it of them. But in all else we are ALL called to be as much like Christ as possible (theosis) Gaudior, humbly begging the ladies NOT to grow beards

Father Gregory
Thank you for the explanation of 1 Corinthians 11:14. Your words are most reassuring to a man that wears his hair very long. More 70's rockstar look, then Orthodox Priest though.

Ok, ok, I own up! That's not my real hair and beard - it's a wig and false beard that got put on me when I did some TV acting last year!
I'm genetically incapable of a beard, just like most Orientals, and if I let what I have grow, I end up with a scraggly Fu-Manchu looking thing.
Beards being the only way to tell early male monastics from females? Gosh, I've seen plenty old ladies with real moustaches in my time...

Edward...this may account for the linguistical confusion that sometimes crops up: Greek for daddy = baba /Ukrainian for grandmother = baba? Gaudior, ducking and running
