Suggestion: if you can find it, read *The Proper Bostonians* (I think Cleveland Amory was the author). Incognitus

Hritzko,
I don't want to go there.
Back to the search for incognitas, what did incognitus mean by bringing up the Italo-Greek parish in Vegas?

Incognitus, While we're on the subject of the Byzantine Italo-Greeks (that's the subject isn't it? ), this year represents the Millenium of the founding by Saint Nilus of the monastic foundation which is now the Exarchic Abbey and Territorial Monastery of Santa Maria di Grottaferrata of the Byzantine Italo-Greek Catholics. Though the Church sui iuris is commonly denominated Italo-Albanian today, the Abbey, the last surviving vestige of the once-flourishing Italo-Byzantine monastic tradition, constitutes that which at one time can be seen to have been the parallel Italo-Greek Church. For those who are interested, the Monastery has a lovely website: Exarchic Abbey & Territorial Monastery of Santa Maria di Grottaferrata [ abbaziagreca.it] May God grant the monastic comunity of Santa Maria di Grottaferrata yet another millenium of service to Him and to our brothers and sisters of the Italo-Greek Church. Paul and All, Actually, if you put together all of the points that have been raised, and reviewed a selection of his earlier posts (I recommend searching on the word "the"), you'd have profiled Incognitus by now. It's perfectly clear. Incognitus is a 97 year old Byzantine Belarusan Catholic expatriate who was ordained for the Italo-Greek Church by a Melkite hierarch. After a brief flirtation with the "Living Church" (during which he succeeded in convincing its faithful to abandon their custom of using greetings that were in the style of factoids), he attended Harvard in an unsuccessful effort to attain recognition as a proper Bostonian. When that failed (he had too much of a sense of humor to ever be a proper Bostonian), he emigrated to Canada, where he spends quality time with the little-known, and truly minority, French Amish and Aussie Hutterite communities (thus accounting for his fluency in those 2 tongues). Periodically he ventures to Minneapolis for pancakes (and to DC for dinner with the Administrator). He summers, in alternate years, at Atlantic City and Las Vegas, the better to indulge his gambling addiction, in hopes of a score large enough to afford airfare to Detroit, so that he can attend a Chaldean Liturgy, thereby fulfilling his childhood dream. There, it's all out in the open now, so 'fess up, Incognitus. Many years, Neil

Dear Irish Melkite,
My conclusion is that incognitus is by definition "incognitus", but I like your story much better.
You may be the next C.S. Lewis, master of imagination and Christian myth.
God bless,
Paul

Dear Irish Melkite,
Your deductive powers are truly impressive! But are pancakes really the only reason that "incongitus" would want to visit Minneapolis?
What about Father Alexis' Church, or even the "mall of America"?

I have visited Saint Mary's in Minneapolis several times, and Light and Life a couple of times. But what is the mall of America? And are French Amish allowed in? Incognitus

Dear Incognitus: You might have just confirmed that you ARE really from "." if you do not know what "Mall of America" is. And, yes, the "French" Amish, or Indiana Amish for that matter, can pull their ubiquitous wagons into and around the Mall without hindrance! AmdG

Amado, I know only one person, besides Incognitus, who has visited Minneapolis and never crossed the threshold of the Mall of America. Oh my gosh, I just realized, Incognitus must be me !!! No, can't be ; I'm C.S.Lewis , Paul said so. Many years, Neil BTW, Father Elias you said: ... are pancakes really the only reason that "incongitus" (sic) would want to visit Minneapolis? You've got me; I'm not even sure why anyone would visit there for pancakes; that was Deacon John's premise. Besides visiting St. Mary's (it was long ago and I wasn't aware of Light & Life at the time), I myself took my gustatorial delight in Czech honey waffles with strawberries and cream and my visual enjoyment in the lovely hammered silver Czech icons that graced the walls of my hosts' home.

I mentioned the Italo-Greek parish because somebody mentioned Las Vegas, where it is located. Thanks for the Grottaferratta web-site - I'm hoping to go to the monastery for the millennium celebrations. Shall we all meet there? Neil's suggestion interests me - perhaps all the suspects have committed the "crime"! Incognitus.

I can't begin to imagine what would qualify a hint! In any event, I do not propose to confirm or deny any guesses - after all, this game was not my idea. Having said that, I shall add that a friend of mine rang me to say that this thread is the most amusing item he has found on the forum. Little did I realize how valuable my participation in the forum would prove to be. Incognitus

I think I know where Incognitus lives, ...it is under a rock! He has never heard of the "Mall of America"! He is obviously out of touch with the modern culture.

Incognitus, Enjoy the website, but you better brush up on your Italian. Last I checked, the details of the millenium celebrations were available only on the Italian language version of the site - not on the English or other language mirror sites. There's nothing I'd like more than to attend the millenium celebrations there (except, of course, to meet you ); unfortunately, I don't think it's in the cards . Actually, I'm intrigued to think that we have already met; you once posted: ... about 30 years ago at the enthronement of Archbishop Joseph of Newton - he was enthroned by the Patriarch in the name of the Synod. On realizing this, the Apostolic Delegate whispered an instruction to the photographer, walked to the throne, placed his hand on the Archbishop's pastoral staff, had a photograph taken, and then released a press statement claiming to have enthroned the Archbishop. I was there, providing security for His Beatitude Patriarch Maximos V of thrice-blessed memory, and remember the photo opportunity created for himself by the Apostolic Delegate (to the chagrin of Father Lucien Maloof of blessed memory).
