Awesome!

I hope they do a bit of history so that those of us who are not Ukranian may become more familar with the past.

Sad but edifying, no?

Especially in this country, we like to think that the age of martyrs was long ago. The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church under Soviet rule reminds us that we're not that far removed from being thrown to the lions...

Still, I'd rather the story being about happy children and pascha dinners.

Considering it was the late 1980s when the UGCC finally came out of the catacombs it is definitely recent history.

theodore,

I would be interested in finding out how you found this out as the schedules on EWTN's website only go though July.

Dear Friends,

And if they say one thing about the "Ukrainian Roman Catholic Church" or the "Roman Catholic Church of the Ukrainian Rite," I'll . . . wink

Alex,
This is why I asked theodore where he got his information. I went to ETWN's website so that I could read a description of the show to see what it is going to be about.

Knowing EWTN I have a funny feeling that it is going to be about the Ukrainian Roman Catholic Church.

Dear David,

I too get "writer's block" sometimes too. It comes from posting here too much . . . wink

I would suggest that you take a break and go to "Faith and Worship" where you'll find an Akathist to your patron, St David, King and Prophet!

God bless,

Alex

My wife brought home the EWTN program schedule for July/August which was in the vestibule of the parish we attend. It's description of the program is:

Quote
Ukraine:
Emerging From the Catacombs

You'll be spellbound by this story of the Greek Catholic Church in the Ukraine. Through historical and current film footage, learn how the Church survived, even though it was officially abolished. August 31 at 7PM, September 2 at 1PM, September 5 at 3AM (1 Hour) All Times Eastern.
Looks well worth watching!

Dear Dave:

Thanks for dispelling all doubts about the perceived "insensitivity" of EWTN's programmers.

Being a highly visible "mouthpiece" of the Catholic Church, I was certain that Mother Angelica's charges would have foreknowledge of the "proper name" of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, and not of the "Roman Catholic Church of the Ukrainian Rite!"

I seem to recall that EWTN has been airing Eastern Catholic Divine Liturgy for some time now.

At any rate, all's well in the Western front! cool

Amado, a Roman Catholic of the Latin Rite wink
