Christ is Risen! I was just doing my morning read of the news websites and came across this. Is what is being called entertainment going too far in mocking the faith? Madonna hangs from cross [ edition.cnn.com] In the Risen Christ, Father Anthony+
Everyone baptized into Christ should pass progressively through all the stages of Christ's own life, for in baptism he receives the power so to progress, and through the commandments he can discover and learn how to accomplish such progression. - Saint Gregory of Sinai

Indeed He is Risen! I saw this this morning on www.drudgereport.com [ drudgereport.com] . I pray for this woman's soul. She is still loved by God, but she has flaunted sacrilege throughout her entire musical career. May God have mercy on her tormented soul! I pray one day that she becomes Sister Mary Magdalen at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Convent in Antarctica where she can do penance for the rest of her life, and the press will leave her alone and not feed her compulsive need for attention. Gordo

No. It is not entertainment. Were this such a spectacle against Islam, well, I don't think it would happen twice. FDD

Not only is it not "entertainment" ... it is doubly tacky when one considers her age. Not that 47 is old by any stretch ... but it is cetainly too old for that kind of behaviour.

Fr Deacon, the last time I looked Jesus is listed as a major Prophet of Islam and she has just mocked him. Maybe she should watch her back.
Gordo hopefully this monastery is situated in the Argentine part of Antarctica. I dont want her in the Aussie bits.

I try to ignore Madonna - but, yeah, I saw this latest stunt of hers. I admit she has some modest talent as a pop singer but as a "performance artist" she's a real hack. At 47 years old, she's no spring chicken and it is time for her to grow up, put on some doggoned clothes, and stop making fun of other people's beliefs.

Sheesh, I thought she had grown up and gotten more responsible. Nope, I guess not.
And if it were Judaism or Islam she had mocked instead of Christianity, her career would be ruined.
God bless,
Karen

Okay, while I don't want to defend Madonna(Lord knows much that she comes up with can not be defended), there is a possibility that we might be missing something in this exihibition of hers. The article says that while Madonna was draping herself on a cross, pictures were being flashed on a screen in the background, showing war, poverty and disease in various parts of the world. Madonna, who has long given up her Catholicism and now professes to a type of Judaism that most Jews I know call a cult, might have been asking why these things are still going on in a world where the majority of people claim to be Christian. Is it possible that her act of climbing on a cross was a reminder(of sorts) that we are all called to share the Cross and die to ourselves and that if we all truly did this, the images she has flashed on a screen would not be taking place? Or maybe I just give her too much credit; admittedly I saw more Christian than sexual symbolism in the Like a Prayer video, as well.

I don't think I'm off base in saying this. I think she's an anti-Mary.

Maybe she should watch her back. Maybe we can bribe an imam or ayatollah to issue a fatwa!

Vie Vie, I don't find this video online. In fact I've not seen this crcifixion scene. Your analysis may be correct but then I wonder why she's getting opposition. Bishop Mahoney seems to get away with things like this. I wonder why Madonna catches so much flack? :p CDL
