I really shouldn't throw cold water on this, but perhaps it's worth remembering that it was a Southern Protestant-led administration that dropped bombs on Serbia on Great and Holy Friday while going out of their way to respect Muslim Ramadan. Yours,

Wasn't that the Clinton administration that did that? If you think Clinton's brand of Protestantism is the same as Condi Rice's, you're painting with an awfully broad brush there ... Not only that, but I don't think I'd hold the Southern Baptists responsible for Bill Clinton either. He hasn't exactly followed *all* their teachings ...

Points well taken. Post withdrawn. Broad brush put away.
I will concede that a President with brains and a moral grounding would be a nice choice to have in the voting booth.
Yours,

Yes, it would be a nice change of pace, wouldn't it?

I never paid much attention to Miss Rice before...I think I will be watching her in the future.
If she does decide to run, it would be an interesting race...especially if that other Clinton decides to throw in her hat as well.

So what's Chelsea doing these days now that she's probably making six figures and running with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Donatella Versace? Hopefully standing up for her (mother's) principles and serving as an abortion clinic escort... those champions of the poor and oppressed! I'd hate to think she was another privileged Clinton hypocrite. After all, she will be running for office one of these days.

I bought gas in Anchorage yesterday. It was $1.89 a gallon. (This is Alaska, where the stuff comes from.) But prices are expected to "drop" after Labor Day, after most people stop vacationing. But there is a "shortage". I don't see any difference in production - no bombs, no pipeline disruptions, Iraq is back on the production line, etc. Hmm. Who's making money?
The Dept of Labor is changing the 'overtime rules'. If you work more than 40 hours a week, your employer can now recompense you with comp time. BUT, the laborer can't choose when to take the comp time (IF it is granted), that is up to the employer, and (by regulations) it expires after 3 pay periods. (I.e. = work for free). But, it's not 'national security', so it's OK.
Computerized jobs are being sent overseas by corporations; if you need public services, your telephone inquiry will be answered in Bombay or Calcutta. But, since it's not a matter of 'national security', Ms. Rice doesn't see a problem.
It seems that whatever benefits corporate bottom-lines is OK with the current administration, including Ms. Rice.
When supporting or not-supporting foreign governments, democracy doesn't seem to be a viable criterion (cf. Cyprus, Turkey, etc.) or even persecution of working people (cf. Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Chile and the Philippines), but whatever makes money for those who own corporate stock is deemed OK and "moral".
Secretary Powell has made comments about this and is likely to "jump ship" in the near future, but Condi Rice elicits a favorable response as a "black woman" even if her positions are in direct opposition to the statements of the Catholic Bishops regarding social justice. We saw the same thing regarding HIV/AIDS with Helene Gayle at the CDC; right gender, right color and totally clueless as to the reality of the epidemic. But "use-able" as a front person.
Blessings!
