I served for the first time on the altar this evening. I am still in awe. The best part is that my oldest son asked me if I wanted to serve, we needed another altar boy. I asked my priest, and he said I could. So my oldest son was my teacher tonight, too. Words cannot express.........

Saint Stephen, Protomartyr, pray for us!

Oh what joy!

I remember when that happened to my husband about 15 years ago. He has served at the alter ever since and is now finishing up his last paper for the deaconate. You never know the doors God has just opened before you. Rojoice!

Its a gray day here in these parts. I just read the papers ,you know cloning & North Korea. Then I came online and read this thread. It lifted my spirits. Thanks for sharing it.

What a wonderful experience. God is with us! That is an experience you will never forget. I think all of us that have served on the altar can relate. Even after many years, it is still a uniquely profound experience every time for me.

The priest that instructed my oldest son how to serve spent several years in a gulag. My son now instructs the younger lads.

It's wonderful to see it passed on, even if in your case it is from the younger generation to the older one. smile

It is wonderful to hear of adults serving at the altar. Nowadays there is sometimes a perception that serving is kid's stuff- far from it! I know of no better way to become intimately familiar with the details of proskomedia, and the Liturgy itself, not to mention the flow of all the other services. It is a real privilege, which many men are not asked to perform, resulting in their never entering the sanctuary.

I taught my son to serve Mass. It was a proud and satisfying experience. He and I served Mass regularly together.

Thanks for sharing your experience and bringing back happy memories.
