However, I've also been struck by the intended guest list at the HOly Father's funeral - and now the authorities in Rome are estimating six million people!
I was very impressed by that too. And, there were billions who watched the funeral on television and by the internet. Amazing.

Every race and nation and religion seemed to be represented at the pope's funeral, and everyone was behaving well. I know that, starting today (the day after the pope's funeral), the wars and hate and whatnot will start again. But, for one day, it was so wonderful to see enemies sitting together, talking together, praying together in true brotherhood. After all the pagentry and so on, seeing the simple fact of brotherly peace among men who are or were enemies --even if that peace was just for one day-- that was the best sight of all at that funeral.

If there is symbollic meaning in the eclipse of the sun of that day, perhaps it is this: A good man (Pope John Paul II) exclipsed his own ego with the love of God. That was enough for the Light of Christ to shine through him and to touch the hearts of millions. It's just amazing what God can do though us if we just let Him work in us and through us.
