For those with imperial tastes, this thread is lighthearted, so as not to deter from other threads.

Another Imperial Torte Site [imperialcake.com]

This seems a bit like a taunt. I'm glad for the website but am a bit disappointed that this would have been introduced as it was used as a taunt in other threads.

O well. I'm rather disappointed in your behavior here.

Perhaps we should ALL remember that this is a fasting period and let it all drop. The all would seem to include you.

Deacon John,

I agree with you after the past several days. We definetly need something to take our minds off of some issues. I think an Imperial Torte would be perfect, but if not some great Belgian chocolate truffles (I'm giving away the Belgian half in me biggrin ).

Now if we can only find the recipes for them, make some so that we can relax and get our minds off the heat (both here and outside).

Indeed!

Dan, several of us have not begun the Dormition Fast yet, and as a result, welcome the topic of chocolate. Those who have begun the Fast welcome the topic of dark chocolate, which can be consumed during the fast.

Gaudior, peaceably

For those who are keeping the new-calendar fast, take heart. By the time you succeed in ordering the Imperial Torte and it arrives from Vienna, August 15th will be upon us.

I'm recommending that as many of us as possible should each order an Imperial Torte for the first anniversary of the beatification of the Emperor Charles (He was beatified on 1 October 2004). This is not a fasting time for anyone, so enjoy!

Meanwhile, to commend our moderator yet again, once it becomes clear that one or more threads are simply beating a dead horse, perhaps a discussion of pastries and Belgian chocolates, or the equivalent, is a good way to move towards closure leaving everyone more-or-less smiling. I wan't taunting anyone; I was simply indicating that enough was more than enough already. One can grow equally tired of pastries and sweets, but dropping a culinary discussion is not usually construed as conceding defeat!

By the way, I CAN provide a recipe for sacher torte, if anyone wants it.

Dan,

this is no taunt, and it was not directed to anybody in particular. Providing it's own thread distances the torte from a taunt.

You have informed us of your planned particpation in the Whiting event. Not speaking as a moderator, may I be so bold to suggest that you direct your thoughts to that end and take a short break from the forum?

We would then look forward to your report on the weekend's events.

Sadly no frown I just visit the wonderful Patisserie and confiserie establishments - I have my favourites in the Towns we visit .

I can fully recommend the Don Quixote establishment near the Church of the Dormition in Lourdes - fantastic and very popular with the locals. the range is truly enormous and everything is baked in small quantities so they are really fresh.

As to baking at home - well - believe it or not I don't have a conventional cooker frown - not kidding - but I have just aquired a new all singing dancing Microwave/ grill/ Convection fan operated oven that does everything except sing happy birthday [ I think] so once I can really bite things again I'm going to start baking once more. I used to bake my own bread - mmmmmmm.

As I mentioned on another post, someone, somewhere has to have approximated this recipe. I have been searching for it but have had no luck so far. I do know the site to order from in Vienna, but it would cost much, much less to make it at home.

A quest! A quest! We must find this recipe, and make it known to all!

Gaudior, who can say that it is not in the Harrod's cake and desserts book (though Sacher Torte is), nor is it online...nor in the James Beard cakes cookbook.

Well,

While trying to make some dinner, (not an easy thing with the phone ringing constantly) I started a search through some recipe databases. No Imperial Torte I am afraid to report, but for when we come out of the fast, a chocolate truffle recipe.

Chocolate Truffle Web Page [fabulousfoods.com]

and

Truffle Recipe [fabulousfoods.com]

Now I got to wait until the end of the month to try them out. I will be out of country from the evening of the 15th until the 29th.

If anyone tries them, and they are good let me know.

Now I have Imperial Torte on the brain. In my best Homer Simpson voice, "Uhhh Chocolate."

I suppose I will have to rule out my vacation plans to: Hershey, PA [hersheypa.com]

And what does this fasting that you keep mentioning have to do with chocolate? Dark chocolate lowers blood pressure, bad cholesterol and is good for artery health. Chocolate is medicine. Fasts never deprive anyone of medicines.
