"WHEN I WAS ushered into the small chapel of the rectory of Philadelphia's Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception to meet Cardinal Lubomyr Husar of Kiev, I found His Beatitude (the patriarchal style, which he prefers over the Roman "Eminence") seated in prayer. The head of the 5.5 million-strong Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, on a visit to his Church's American base, was humbly dressed in an open cardigan, slacks and an open-collared shirt. No episcopal ring was in sight and a wooden Byzantine cross hung from a simple cord around his neck. In a prince of the Church - especially one visiting a part of the American Church where the cardinalate has a reputation, not entirely undeserved, for being hostile to the press and not at all averse to the sump tuousness that comes with the office - this grandfatherly appearance and demeanour was refreshing."

Beatitude is a title accorded to all the Metropolitans of the Rus Churches. I just wish he would wear the white Klobuk either the one as worn with the rounded top or the Greek style one as worn by Metroplitan Andew.

He is a wonderful man who I had the privelege of going to for confession when he was still a secret bishop and resident across the lake from Castelgandolfo.

I don't think that Cardinal Husar is a nice person. He doesn't behave like a Prince of the Church. He is traveling in ordinary clothes, without even clerical colar...!!!!!!!!!!! Its discasting, not one orthodox patriarch is dressing like "his beatitude" does!!! (Who gave him patriarchal titel confused )

Welcome to Byzcath

I appreciate that English is not your first language but I really cannot see that your criticism of His Beatitude is justified.
Here we have an elderly Cleric , who admits to very poor sight nowadays , and who during the period when that interview was given, was doing an incredible amount of travel.

Is he not allowed to relax for a bit ?

Yes it is one thing to be at relaxing privately to be dressed this way. When he is on the job he is always shown in photographs in the Rason.

The Klobuk I mention earlier is this like this.

Dear Pavel,

My father, brother and I once had the privilege of having an audience with Patriarch Joseph Slipyj the Confessor.

He was in the bishop's residence having a nap at the time and was in his riassa when he met us.

My brother wanted to take a picture of him, but he said, "That means I have to get all dressed up . . ." And he refused as he was rather tired . . .

That was O.K. though!

I looked into his eyes when he gave me Holy Communion several years prior to this audience.

When he saw me, he turned to my father and said, "I met this one somewhere before!"

smile

Has his Beatitude Lubomyr ever said why he doesn't wear the Klobuk like Metropolitan Andrew, or Patriarch Joseph?

I hold a great admiration for Patriarch Husar and I believe he is one of the major union visionaries of our time (along with John Paul the Greatest...)

To not like the great and holy leader of the UGCC because he doesn't wear a white klobuk is well.... sad.

All I have to say is:
