I was wondering if anyone out there has any information to help me out.

What I am looking for is a byzantine cross to wear. Not too big, an inch to two in size would be nice.

But.....

I want it to have some heft to it, so that it will remind me through out the day that I am wearing it.

My current byzantine cross is too light, so I am wearing a St Benedict Cross/Medal as it is heavier and has a change that reminds me through out the day that it is there.

Thanks!

David

David, there are several sources. You can often find some on ebay by typing in "orthodox" in the search function. Several religious goods importers from Russia, Greece, etc. sell on ebay.

Dear Friends,

I would just like to draw your attention to the St Nectarios Press site on Diak's list above.

If you scroll down its Crosses selection, you'll come to the medal of St Seraphim and the Mother of God Joy of all Joys.

This is the medal that is given to pilgrims at Sarov itself - I have an antique one that I wear around my neck, touched to the Relic of St Seraphim.

That really IS a great buy!

(And, no, the company isn't paying me to say that)

Dear Anhelyna,

Well, I really only just saw it when Diak put it up . . . wink

The fellow I quoted on the other thread, the doctor who went to Sarov, got one of those medals after fulfilling the Rule of Prayer there . . .

.

And when pray, do you think I will manage to go to Sarov ?

That is as likely as the proverbial flying pigs.

Dear Anhelyna,

Well, you are closer to Sarov than I smile

You sound really angry with me!

What can I do to make it up to you?

I know - I've already e-mailed you about it!

Here is a nice one on ebay. I bought one just like it about a year ago and really love it. It isn't that big, but does have some heft. The only thing is, while the listing says it has St. Nicholas on the back, I am told on good authority it is St. Seraphim of Sarov. :-) This guy has some other neat from Russia listed, including a pocket watch with St. Vladimir on the front! I have one of those and gave one to my parish priest. Don

The fellow in Spokane that Don mentions sells often on ebay. I have bought some nice silver, bronze and enameled crosses from Matvei for gifts. He found an Old Believer neck cross I had been searching for sometime for my son Nikolai.

St. Nektarios Press that I gave the link for above also has the Theotokos of Pochaev medals on the same page that Alex mentions.

Just happened to come across this one.

David: As Tennessee Ernie Ford used to say "(God) bless yore peapickin' little heart." I've been searching for this type of information with little success for over a year now.

Diak: God bless yours twice!!

Bless me a sinner, Father Don,

Thank you, once again, Father Don for your gift to me!

Also, the Cross you mention has St Sergius of Radonezh on the back - you are right, it is not St Nicholas.

Dear Diak,

I once found a medal of Our Lady of Pochaiv in London, England and still have it.

It has the icon with the Footprint on one side and St Job of Pochaiv on the other.

It is apparently from the 18th century and, strangely enough, is a Catholic medal that was minted then for the papal coronation of Our Lady of Pochaiv!

The Cause of St Job of Pochaiv at Rome was advancing, at the urging of the Pochaiv Basilians, and so they included the haloed icon of St Job on the back - he was widely venerated by Ukrainian Catholics at the time in any event.

And I notice that in many Basilian publications there is a black and white picture of a monk praying before an altar and an icon of Our Lady.

In one of their Alamanacs, the Basilians titled this picture "St Josaphat praying before the MOther of God."

It is, in fact, a standard icon of St Job of Pochaiv that one may still obtain at that Lavra!

Have I made your day or what? smile

I don't know about the rest of you - but I think it's time that Alex took a photo of his study and showed us where he keeps all his precious things .

I can't imagine any house having a room big enough for them - what was it 3000+ icons, Ripidia, Ethiopian Umbrellas etc etc not to mention all these medals [ and we keep hearing about new ones every day]. That room must have the most elastic of all elastic walls.

Anhelyna - who is still grinning with happiness biggrin biggrin biggrin
