Hopefully more bishops will follow his lead:

Archbishop Burke.

Yes, St. Louis is lucky to have him now! May he set an example to all the clergy.

I hope he will do the same with pro-death penalty politicians, following the Pope's teaching.

Brian

The Bishop comes from Wisconsin where the last legal execution took place in 1851, so it's quite possible the topic never came up. Personally I'am totally opposed to the death penalty, not because I feel it's morally wrong, but rather because our judicial system (my home state of Illinois in particular) is so corrupt that we often don't know who is guilty and who is innocent. Perhaps if our courts sent an occasional judge, prosecuting attorney or policeman down the Green Mile we'd have a more honest legal system.

Actually, he's not an ARCHbishop yet. He hasn't been officially installed in St. Louis. Next time you try to correct someone, make sure you're right. :-)

Anthony,

Yes, I realized this about five minutes after I posted. If you'll look at another thread in which Daniel N. inquired as to Bishop Burke, you'll see that I informed him that Burke was Archbishop-elect of St. Louis, and not archbishop yet. This posting was, I'm sure, less than 45 minutes after I posted the one in this thread, and I haven't been online since.

I didn't try to correct myself 'cuz I didn't think it'd be a big deal. Apparently I was wrong. smile
