I think it's urgent for Catholic and Orthodox Churches to start a campaign in parishes, medias, church parish bulletins againts the presence of "Mrs. Claus" character which is so widespread in America and the World.

"Mrs Claus" is an attempt by the heretics (both Protestans and Capitalist) to de-christianize and change the meaning of our beloved St. Nicholas tradition as held by the Apostolic Christian Churches.

Why would a celibate Byzantine-Rite Bishop who ended up delivering gifts to kids need a wife? It's ridiculous.(I bet she's also feminist and liberal-minded just like those who invented her).

Representantions with Mrs. Claus should be banned from homes, parishes and job places.

Santa must always be portraited as normal, but with Episcopal signs.

While we are at it, what is with all of those little elves he has hanging around his house?

I've always preferred the traditional obsevance of St.Nicholas day as the day gifts are exchanged, and a "santa" dressed as a Bishop, Latin or Eastern rite, for the kids after church. I like Christmas being a Feast of fellowship with a spiritual emphasis where we remember the less fortunate...

Why do the people who invented her have to be liberal minded feminists? As the idea of Santa drifted from St Nicholas it seemed logical for him to have a wife. I don't know about you but in every book and movie I have seen or read Mrs Claus is depicted as a good hearted woman NOT a feminist woman set to take over Christmas.

Mr Claus is the incarnation of the pagan god Odin and Mrs Claus is likewise a pagan norse goddess. Not only is the figure of of Mr Claus a mockery of the memory of St Nicholas but 'Father Christmas' is a distraction from the truth of Christmas. Christmas has one Father, Our Father in Heaven, children are being bewitched by the daemon Odin through this latest incarnation. People dont realise how sinister this daemon is. He has children praying in supplication to him, doing works to placate him, and their parents are encouraging this dreadful idolatry.

Santa Claus is not evil. Like teddy bears, Big Bird, and other elements of make believe, Santa can provide a very healthy and age appropriate way of teaching the Christian traits of giving and selflessness. Take a look at the Christmas movie Miracle on 34th Street. There is a good subplot that touches on the robbing of a child in participation in the imagi-nation that is necessary to a healthy childhood. Santa means fun for kids with an opportunity to learn basic elements of Christian morality. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that so long as it is not excessive.

Beware of people who hate Santa Claus with great passion. They are the same people who tell children that playtime is bad, that imaginary tea parties or playing with matchbox cars is evil and that all toys should be confiscated.

Come to think about it, if I were a judge of such people Id sentence them to watch the cartoon Santa Claus is Coming to Town to see how dull and unfruitful (and silly) that life without play can be.

I wonder whatever happened to Bergermeister Meisterberger?

He's probably a lurker here or, even worse, he's posting under an assumed alias...

Though there is no mention of Saint Nicholas' having a wife, it was not unusual for bishops as late as the 4th century to be married. The Council of Elvira (306 AD) was the first to promulgate the canon requiring clerical celibacy, yet this was restricted to local Churches in Spain.

"Santa must always be portraited as normal, but with Episcopal signs." Uh . . . ah . . . considering what the Episcopal Church has been up to lately, is that such a good idea?

"Miracle on 34th Street" is one of my favorite movies. Does anyone know if it's available on DVD?

A jolly fat man who dresses flashy, and who lives at the North Pole with a bunch of elves and reindeer, is not even close to the same thing as the holy and venerable bishop, St. Nicholas.

St. Nicholas: bishop, wonderworking saint, real.

Santa: clever work of fiction, not real.

Now, if this cheerful work of fiction we know as Santa Claus didn't have a Missus, I'd start to wonder about him. He'd seem a little creepy to me, up there, obsessively making toys for little girls and boys, and breaking and entering to deliver 'em...! I mean, just think about it.

And Mrs. Claus is not exactly a feminist figure, either - she's pretty much depicted as a doting old housewife in modest grandma attire, with little steel rimmed glasses and white hair. I have a hard time feeling threatened by her.

My son Dominic told me after the December 4th Divine Liturgy (where a member of the congregation dressed as St. Nicholas [with vestments, mitre, and crosier]) that "I know that Santa Claus is not real, but St. Nicholas is a real person. He's 4 years old wink

Ask and thou shalt receive [amazon.com] !

(Interestingly enough, no sign of a Mrs. Claus in this movie - maybe they thought she would detract attention from Maureen O'Hara. wink )

The day before Christmas Eve, one little boy told his mother:

- Mommy, I wanna tell ya somethin'. There's no reason to lie anymore, I now know all the truth 'bout Santa Claus they told us at school. Daddy is Santa Claus.

The worried mother, trying to remain calm in front of her son added:

- Awww how mean! frown Hmm.. and what do you think about that?

- Oh I think it's great! It must be so cool to get letters from all these little guys all around the world, to have elves doin' all you want and drink vodka all day!

wink
