I was just wondering about a couple of things regarding PM's.

1. Usually when I get a PM, there is a note at the top of the Forum pages, "You have 1 unread message". But other times when I get a PM that message doesn't show up. Since I have my profile set up to send PM's to my personal e-mail address, it isn't an issue for me. But I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this. I sent a couple of PM's to someone, and he hasn't read them but I know he's been on the board at least once since I sent them. I'm wondering if that little message isn't showing up on his screen.

2. If I send a PM to somebody and it sits "unread" in my "sent messages" section forever, is it possible they deleted it without reading it? Would it just sit in limbo in my "sent messages" section forever if that happened? I am asking this because I sent a PM to someone 6 weeks ago, and he has read and responded to other PM's since then, but that one sat there "unread" until I finally deleted it!

3. If I delete a message from my "sent messages" section before the recipient reads it, it will still be in his "incoming new messages" section, won't it?

A1: There are some users who do not like the PM feature and simply never check their messages. Sometimes a user might read only the first message of several new messages, which sets the flag so the notification of new PMs no longer appears. Also, there are occasions when the software just doesnt work as intended (which seems to directly to what version of Internet Explorer, Netscape or Opera one is using). It seems that the occasional message is sent to never-never-land. The PM notification feature is still fairly new. Im sure it will become more robust in future software releases.

A2: Yes. A message can be deleted before being read. It would then sit in your Sent Private Messages list until you delete it. Most often, however, the person also gets PMs via e-mail and has read it there, sees no need to read it again, and just lets it sit unread in the Incoming Private Messages list.

Don't tell me you don't have control over the umpteen million different software programs out there! wink

I never thought of that! That's probably what happened, then!

Thanks for clarifying that for me... I was worried that my messages weren't getting read frown and nobody loved me wink

(See, I can use as many emoticons as Alex!)
