Catholic Churches Cover Sexual and Demonic Artwork with Adhesive to Hide Imagery [fullcoverage.yahoo.com]

Quote
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 20, 2006 -- The nation's largest Catholic archdiocese, run by Roger Cardinal Mahoney, has covered current hymnals with an adhesive sticker, hiding the sexual and demonic artwork...

World-renowned experts Dr. Judith Reisman, Dr. Wilson Bryan Key, Dr. Stanley Monteith, and Dr. Marc Oster join Calace, as the art has affected a vast multitude of churchgoers, especially since the 2006 hymnal is distributed in two out of every three Catholic Churches in the U.S.

The sexual and demonic artwork was created by Brother Steve Erspamer and published by John Limb of the Oregon Catholic Press (OCP). A statement was issued by Sister Geremy Gallet of the Archdiocese of Portland saying, All of the cover art has been approved by the Archdiocese and the Vatican.

I was trying to look up who this Brother Steve Erspamer was. It turns out he has made art for Protestant Churches as well as Catholic Churches.

I would like to see this cover artwork. I can't believe that it could be so bad as to require this special treatment.

The entire shipments should have been refused if it is all that bad.

This is the part where skepticism goes A LONG, LONG WAY.

One of the problems with anyone identified as a "devout Catholic" in a news article -- like the fellow hawking his new documentary -- is that the reader is automatically left slightly off-balanced mentally. He thinks, "Oh, gee, this bloke is straight up and coming at me with good info." No, he could just be coming after your wallet with a salacious little story of scandal, hoping that his "devout" credentials will lower your resistance to part with a little cash. Yes, there's a conspiracy here. 500 years of art is embedded with demonic imagery. Uh huh. Adhesives on the the hymnals? Why, that's to cover up stuff. Doesn't have anything to do with the desire to preserve the hymnals so that they last longer. This is a banal explanation. No sirrreee bob, we gotta have stories of diabolical forces at work to explain the sticky adhesive on the hymnal.

Pull out Ockham's razor and use it. Things are bad enough in the Church without indulging in the wild stories of "devout" Catholics. I sometimes think Roman traditionalists in particular just love feeding on the negative.

Being one who has looked at it today I found it a bit awkward and weird though I did not know of the devilish look...there is some discussion at "C-A" Forum regarding the modification of hymns & psalms by this publisher...

It would not surprise me in the least if it did...I doubt if any diocese really reviews it before use.

Here is a little info from the past;

As a Byzantine who is a professional organist in a RC church, I can only relate my own views based on my experiences. I will not buy anything from OCP - period. I know good music, and it doesn't come from them.

So, are there Satanic images in the Hymnal? What about sexual images as the article suggest? Does the hymnal have tape covering up parts of it?

I have don't go to a RCC so I have no idea.
